Isangrad is the capital city of The Valerian Empire and the largest city of the nation. Lying on the River Vedus, it is an ancient city which has been in existence for several millennia. St. Valerian made the city his capital under which he changed its name from Isangrad to Valerius Prime. The name was reverted to Isangrad during the reign of Tsar George I. The city is divided into two areas by the wide River Vedus: The New City and The Old City. The New City is the modern part of the city where tall office buildings crowd the skylines and where a majority of the population lives. The Old City is the historical Isangrad, which includes the Imperial Palace of the Valerian royal family, among other things such as art museums, imposing cathedrals, and beautiful architecture.

Districts of Isangrad

Isangrad proper is home to 16,650,114 people (2045 census). Of these are 13 Districts that make up the city. The River Vedus splits up the city into two distinct sectors, the "Old Sector" on the east bank, which is the historical part of the city, and the "New Sector", where modern skyscrapers, architecture, and the majority of the city's population and commerce exists.

Isangrad's 13 Districts

Old Isangrad

Old Isangrad is the oldest part of Isangrad, and the original extent of the city before the 18th century. This part of the city is the largest district, but due to the fact that many buildings are historical and that the tallest building in the district is a 15 story Industrial Age skyscraper, the district does not house the majority of the city's population. Running through Old Isangrad is Imperial Highway 4 that heads south to Tabriz and north to Trentino.

Old Isangrad is home to countless historical buildings and sites, including the massive St. Augustine Cathedral and St. Valerian Cathedral. Old Isangrad is also the gubernatorial center of the Valerian Empire, since the Imperial Palace is located here, as well as all of the ministries that make up the government of Magnus Valerius.

New Isangrad

New Isangrad is, effectively, the commercial center of Isangrad. Tall glass skyscrapers dominate the skyline, and high-rise condos and hotels are not uncommon in this district. The magnificent Isangrad Bridge, a suspension bridge at the very heart of the city, connects New and Old Isangrad. The Tsar's Arena National Stadium, a large stadium with a seating capacity of 80,000, hosts World Cup games and games for the Isangrad Legion; the stadium lies on the Tsar Ivan Islet in the middle of the River Vedus.

The tallest buildings in the empire and the region lies in New Isangrad. The International Trade Center and Valeririjk Corp. Tower stand at 110 stories tall, and are magnificent modern structures that are proud symbols of the empire's economic strength.

Saint George's

Another historical district that is home to Victorian architecture and spacious mansions of the various nobles and aristocrats of the Empire.

Ironworks District

The Ironworks District is a grungy, drab region where the majority of the citie's manufactories and industries are. The biggest factory of the empire and namesake of the district, the Valeririjk Ironworks, towers over the district and is the beating heart of Magnus Valerius' powerful steel industry.

Saint Patrick's

Saint Patrick's consists of Industrial Age architecture, tenements, and offices. Some industry is also found here, and Isangrad's port on the River Vedus is also located in this district. The River Port's wharfs bring in fresh fish and imported goods, and also help ship some of the goods produced in the city to the ports in Trentino and Kholmogory.

Abramburg

Abramburg is home to Isangrad's Jewish community. The historic Jakob Synagogue, built in the 8th century, is effectively the religious center for all Jews in Magnus Valerius.

Saint Peter's

A district of quaint apartments and spacious green parks. Often the best place to go for a respite on a park bench.

Saint Paul's

A historical district with a large number of statues and fountains, Saint Paul's hosts both foreign and domestic elite.

"Asiangrad"

Although not officially known as "Asiangrad", this district of the city is known as such by locals due to the fact that the district is home to Asian ethnic communities. Koreans, Vietnamese, Arabs, Russians, and Chinese people have established significant and respected communities in Asiangrad. Architecture of such various cultures are seen in the high rises, tenements, offices, and street shops that dot the district.

What is interesting is that Isangrad and its Metro Area is home to nearly all of the Asians in Magnus Valerius.

Blue Plaza Distict

Named after the Blue Plaza, a plaza commemorated by Meijis for his victory against Sasukuo in the Sasukuo-Valerian War, the district is home to middle-class and poor families. Many workers who toil in the Ironworks Districts find themselves living here.

West Isangrad

An extension of New Isangrad. Home to mostly condo high rise buildings and parks, but many office buildings and factories are here as well.

Piazza District

A district where "Modern Luxury" is the phrase. Isangrad University is located out here, along with wide avenues, palm trees, wide parks, penthouses, and villas.

Two Rivers Sector

The Two Rivers Sector has tall skyscrapers and is home to high-tech industry.

Metro Area of Isangrad

Isangrad's Metro Area is home to 26,790,462 people, of many different ethnic groups and backgrounds. This figure makes Isangrad the largest municipal region in the Kuric and Gedonian Continents. The various communities are connected to the main city. Often, some of these towns have distinct majorities. For example, Synghamburg is a mostly Korean-Valerian city, its namesake is a Valerian bastardization of Syngman Rhee.
