The J-83, manufactured by the Hsaio Motor Corporation, is a high-speed interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft, developed in the mid-80s, primarily intended to match Chinese and Soviet jets of the period, and has subsequently been modified several times to keep up with their progress. The J-83 was, as an afterthought by the designers, also designed to be a limited reconnaissance aircraft, in support of the larger Y-39 ELINT/EW aircraft.
