Jack "Jake" Sutton(Born May 12, 1985) is a Coocoostani Light Heavweight and Middleweight Boxer and was the first gold medallist in Coocoostani Olympic history. Sutton's story was made all the more notable by his being thought of as one of the weaker boxers on the team heading into the Olympic Games.
Early Career
Sutton began boxing at the age of 14 through his Junior High school and was ranked in the top five in the Capital Oblast. After moving into the high school ranks, Sutton lost the middleweight final of the Coocoostan National Championships as a 17 year old and soon accepted a scholarship to Wajax University.
College
Sutton began his college career by winning his class and helping the Golden Panthers win a Tradition conference championship, before they finished 5th at the nationals. In his second year, he won his class again, but this time, the team failed to move on. His Junior year was where he was really noticed, fighting on an injured knee, he won his class at both the conference and national level, guiding Wajax U to a bronze medal. Finally, in his senior year, Sutton won both titles again, this time, the Golden Panthers took the national boxing crown, a first national title in any sport.
Semi-Pro Career
Sutton graduated as a highly touted middleweight, but in his only Semi-Pro fight to date, he was soundly beaten by Ruslan Karpov in three rounds at the Puhdahl Bowl. Sutton went up in weight to Light Heavyweight on the advice of trainer Herbie Bernstein for the Olympics.
Olympics
Sutton arrived in Querzakhi in time for the Opening Ceremony and marched in the Athlete's Parade. He was involved in the move into university dorms for four days, returning the night before his quarterfinal match. Due to the sparse entries in the Boxing competition, fighters were guaranteed a medal with one win. Sutton guaranteed his by beating Billy Lowe of Commerce Heights 25-16. It was in his semifinal against Lucas Duarte da Costa of Cafundeu that he showed his power, beating him 36-16. After nearly a week off, Sutton defeated Josh Nazlo of Stopmenow100 27-25 to take the nation's first gold. Papers the next day were covered with news of his victory and he is all but guaranteed a Presidential Prize in July.
Post-Olympics
Sutton is taking several months to have a speaking tour of the country with his medal, before returning to training in early July.
