Emperor Kano IV's reign has been remarkable for the rapid increase of Amnalos's population, military might and economy. At his instigation, Amnalos has abandoned its policy of isolationism and has begun major trade with neighbouring nations.
The Emperor is regarded by political commentators as less conservative and more controversial than his predecessors. The power of veto that is his by right of inheritance has not been used often during his reign, although he has shown both the willingness and ability to manipulate both houses of Parliament to his own ends if he thinks it necessary.
In May 2005, the Emperor was attacked and seriously wounded in an assassination attempt.
