Brigand
(Main article: F6II Brigand)
One squadron of Fairchild F6II Brigands was taken over from the airforce of Utah. The planes had served as border air patrol, but had been relocated to the newly-constructed Utah JMOB close to Salt Lake City in the mid 1940's, when the Japanese invasion was gaining ground, to defend Salt Lake City. An excellent aircraft for dogfights in its times, but an out-dated escort today. Most of the Brigands were removed for airship development. Further have been removed by Mitsubishi. Still capable to hold its own against slower-moving or unarmed airships and civilian aircraft. Of course, havy modifications are possible. The aircraft can be equipped with new armor plates and engines, modern missiles – if they can be tailored to fit the old rocket hardpoints – can be loaded, and even an energy weapon system and jet engine can be mounted with enough technical understanding, but it'd be cheaper to buy a new plane.

Airships
RAGNAROK-CLASS

The Ragnarok-class ships are really no "airships" in the strict sense of the word. They can leave the atomsphere of the earth, and should thus be considered to be spaceships. But they are mainly used within the atomsphere, were they can travel at extreme speeds with their rocket engines. Even though the Gradius-class is much newer, the Ragnarok-class can thus still be considered the class of airships with the highest technology involved.
APOCALYPSE-CLASS
The RAGNAROK-CLASS' IAS Apocalypse had such severe modifications that it spawned a new airship class itself: the Apocalypse Class. Considerably slower, the Apocalypse was capable of prolongued atmospheric and spatial operations and carried Apocalypse missiles instead of the gatling guns of the Ragnarok. It was also largely different in its overall design and operated not by a human pilot, but a computer system. The Apocalypse class was manufactured by Mitsubishi, apparently using technology from the F6II Brigands foudn at Utah JMOB.
