Lifetime Term

The Principality of Majester is a constitutional monarchy. The regent is elected by popular ballot for a life-term of twenty years. During this period, the regent has absolute power, aided by parliament in the running of the Principality. At the end of the term, a month long festival is held that culminates in the sacrifice of the regent to the Elder Gods on the evening of the new moon in an ancient religious pact. The regent is mourned for one lunar year, and his wealth distributed to neighbouring countries.

A new regent is elected from voluntary candidates in the populace. Direct descendants of the previous regent are inelligable. The newly elected regent adopts the traditional name of the Immortal Prince Majester in a secret ceremony on the new moon. The emergence from the Creation Cave is followed by a month of festivities and gift giving in anticipation of prosperity.
