Sacred Emperor Lucifer of Domain Halcyon

Lucifer Halcyon, Sacred Emperor of the Kregaian Empire, is widely regarded as one of the most fascinating, enigmatic, and powerful figures in human history. He took an Imperium crippled by weakness and transformed it into one of the world's great powers; he was a man of immense political power, material wealth, and strength of personality. He was a master both of war and peace, not only an excellent strategist and leader but a gifted orator and devious politician. His stern but firm rule over the Empire stood in stark contrast to the atrocities committed at his order and his potential for astonishing cruelty. At his death in 2023, the Imperium had undergone the greatest growth in population, GDP, government revenue and spending, military size and budget, and international prestige, in its history, and the College of Priests is currently debating whether Lucifer should be posthumously declared a god. He was, essentially, the embodiment of the Imperium, and for better or for worse, his death has marked a new era in the world.

Early Life

The man who would become the mighty Sacred Emperor Lucifer was born March 2nd, 1978, to the Patriarch of Domain Halcyon. At that time, during the reign of Sacred Emperor Javan, the Domains (the most powerful families of the nobility) essentially ruled the Empire and had a great deal of autonomy; Lucifer, therefore, was heir to a significant, semi-independent kingdom from birth. The young Lucifer demonstrated extraordinary intelligence and charisma, and was rarely, if ever, satisfied with what he had. One anecdote attests that as early as 1984, Lucifer had organized a gang of his friends who exercised complete control over the narrow world of his private school's playground.

Lucifer grew up into an independent-thinking, fiercely patriotic, religious, intelligent, handsome, and strong young man. It is rumored that by his early teens he was already bedding the daughters of many of the Empire's nobles; this, however, cannot be substantiated. At eighteen he attended the prestigious Prince Aeneas Military University, majoring in political science while being enrolled in the Legions' officer training program. He graduated in three years with a commission as a Captain, and achieved his master's in political science through online study programs in the next year. Through his family's connections in the Inner Court, he was promoted to a Supreme Commander in 2004.

Ascension

In late 2004, the first rumors of rebellion reached Korronis: it was said that Domain Parios, the strongest of the Domains, was plotting a revolution. In alarm, Sacred Emperor Javan initiated the Succession, consecrating Lucifer and four others as High Lords. However, this would backfire on him with a vengeance: doing so made Lucifer a legal heir to the throne. When the Parian rebellion began in early 2005, Lucifer was summoned to a military conference in Korronis to discuss how to deal with it. However, upon arriving, Lucifer had the Sacred Emperor assassinated (he had no son to be the Crown Prince) and seized the throne. He was welcomed by practically everyone in the Imperium, even more so when he brutally put down the rebellion, slaughtering every last Parian with biological weapons.

Reign

Consolidation

Lucifer took the throne amidst ecstasies of popular approval, a weapon he wielded generously in his reform programs. Firstly, the pro-democratic measures put in place by Sacred Emperor Javan were destroyed; the Council of Prefects was stripped of its power and dissolved, and vast powers were given instead to the heads of the various Ministries, who were answerable only to Lucifer himself. Sycophants and fools were removed from power and left to rot in prisons, replaced by Lucifer's appointees. The Inquisition's powers were restored, and increased funding was given to the seminaries responsible for turning out priests. However, the recipient of the biggest slice of renewed Imperial funding was the Kregaian Imperial Armed Forces. The KIAF had withered away under Javan, who, being a pacifist, did not approve of MBTs, heavy artillery, carriers, strategic bombers, and other weapons of the modern battlefield. Corporations like Ilium AirTech, Megiddo Heavy Industries, Ilium Motors, and Kregaian Fleet Works, Inc. were contracted to produce new weapons, while the KIAF received trillions of dollars to spend on recruitment, soldier and officer training, and weapons purchases. In a matter of years, it was on its way to becoming one of the most powerful armies in the world.

Jarridian War

Lucifer's first challenge came in 2007, when the Jarridians began a massive invasion of Doomingsland. The CAD united to defeat the interlopers; Lucifer ordered the College of Priests to declare the Fourth Crusade, a major event in Kregaian theology. The Jarridians had barely begun the invasion when stiff resistance and unified CAD fleets threatening to cut off their supply lines forced them out again.

Czardaian War

The Imperium's first real test followed in 2008, when Lucifer ordered the last democratic members of the Council of Prefects to be arrested and sacrificed to the gods. Condemnations from liberal nations poured in, chief among them the borderline-anarchist state of Czardas. The Imperium did not take kindly at all to foreign interference, but was forced to fight on the enemy's terms when the Czardaians sent a sizable air fleet to the Empire. With Doomani help, the enemy was routed, and the next phase of the war began. The Imperium, along with the Parthians, Shenyang, Freudotopia, and Banduria, began a vast naval assault on Czardas. It should be noted that Czardas was protected by a vast missile system called Project CAMERA, which was shut down by a team of infiltrators who gave their lives in the process. With it down, the Czardaians were left mostly defenseless, and the Kregaian fleet soon overwhelmed the enemy, landing troops at the base of the Aurdanian Spit. The troops, led by Lord Rahvin (who had helped Lucifer create the plan for the whole invasion) engaged and crushed enemy forces outside the city of Palma at practically no cost. The fleet, however, suffered a huge loss as CAMERA was brought back online and fired, destroying over 200 ships, a sixth of the Imperial fleet. However, the vast Imperial army had built up a head of steam now, and Rahvin's plan was well under way. The cities of Aurdania and Auru were destroyed by naval bombardment, killing an estimated 250,000 civilians. Rahvin then moved his forces to the town of Senazkerkia, declaring it to be under Imperial martial law, only to find the townsfolk had fled. In anger, he captured a single Senazkerkian and ordered the forests where the rest destroyed by incendiaries, killing thousands more. The captive, meanwhile, was tortured to death by Inquisitors on live television. Shortly thereafter, as Rahvin prepared to march on the capital, Doomingsland re-entered the war, and Czardas surrendered. A conference of the world powers, Sovereign League and CAD, was held at Czarna in early 2009; however, the talks were inconclusive, and the Imperial forces withdrew, leaving Czardas to itself.

Socal8 Affair

The Socal8 Affair followed next: In the summer of 2009, a tiny nation known as the Kingdom of Socal8 sent threats to the Borman Empire. Although the nation was too tiny to take seriously, such umbrage, Lucifer considered, could not be tolerated. He sent then-Lord Ishamael with an army to conquer Socal8, fighting alongside Parthian and Borman forces. The nation was quickly conquered, offering no defense, and after plundering it, Ishamael returned to Kregaia.
