The MBT-25 is the newest main battle tank (MBT) in service with the Czechalrussian Armed Forces.
Production history
The MBT-25 with an 2,500 HP engine went into low-level production in 2006, based on a prototype designated T-25. The MBT-25 was developed by Czechalrus' Armored Systems Design Bureau at the Ulayanov factory in Kiev. The MBT-25 features a new generation Chobham Armor, and can have ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) attached to its hull and turret. Two variants, the MBT-25S and MBT-25E, have been identified as possible export models.
By mid-2006 some 300 MBT-25 tanks had gone into service in the Czechalrus Far Eastern Military District.
Late 2006 saw the appearance of a new model of MBT-25, featuring the Next Gen Chobham turret of instead of the cast turret. This new model is called "Yuri" in honour of MBT-25 Chief Designer Yuri Sustkov. It is unknown how this design affects the protection and layout of the turret, or whether the tank's hull armour layout was changed.
Currently, there are 5,000 MBT-25 tanks serving in the Czechalrus' Armored Divisions. On March 10, 2007, Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Belousov announced that along with other purchases, some 400 new MBT-25s will be produced for the Czechalrus Armed Forces.
The MBT-25S version is in service with the The United Socialist States of Wagdog Army and the indigenous production of MBT-25S Tukotav. In 2007, The United Socialist States of Wagdog bought the license to produce the MBT-25S from Czechalrus. T-90S were made by Ulayanov and the uprated 2,500-hp engines were delivered by Nechnav Tractor Plant.
Variants
- MBT-25 — Original production model
- MBT-25S — Later production, with full chobham turret.
- MBT-25S Tukotav — MBT-25 in The United Socialist States of Wagdog service.
Armament
The MBT-25's main armament is the 125mm 3A46N Rifledbore Gun(With computer controlled firing system). This is a highly modified version of the 2A45N. It can be replaced without dismantling the inner turret and is capable of firing APFSDS, HEAT-FS, HE-FRAG, and, 9M119M Reflex ATGM
The MBT-25S and the MBT-25S Tukotav variants can fire the 9M119M Reflex missile, which has semi-automatic laser beam-riding guidance and a hollow-charge HEAT warhead. The missile has an effective range of 100 m to 7000 m, and takes 15.5 seconds to reach maximum range. It can penetrate 900 mm of Chobham RHA Armour, and can engage low-flying air targets such as helicopters at a range of up to 7,000 metres. Allowing MBT-25 to engage and destroy western tanks such as the M1A3 Abrams and Leopard 2A6 before the MBT-25 comes with in their range.
The NSVT remote-controlled 12.7mm antiaircraft machine gun has a range of 2 km and rate of fire of 210 rounds per minute. The PKT 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun weighs about 10.5 kg while the ammunition box carries 250 rounds and weighs an additional 9.5 kg.
Protection
The MBT-25 is fitted with Next Gen-Chobham and nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection equipment.
The MBT-25 is equipped with the Shtora-1 (Russian: Штора-1 or "curtain" in English) countermeasures suite, produced by Electronintorg of Russia. This system includes infrared jammer, laser warning system with four laser warning receivers, grenade discharging system which produces an aerosol screen and a computerised control system. The laser warning system warns the tank's crew when the tank has been 'painted' by a weapon-guidance laser. The MBT-25's electro-optical jammer, the Shtora-1 EOCMDAS, jams the enemy’s semiautomatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) antitank guided missiles, laser rangefinders, and target designators.
Survivability
The MBT-25 was designed to combat western style tanks and is capable of easily destroying a M1A3 Abrams. It has many safety features For example, spare ammunition with separate compartments with blow-out panels.
Operators
In all the MBT-25 is operated by The Republic of Czechalrus and The United Socialist States of Wagdog.
