MFI Kitchenalia
Nation: Wharf Springs
Function: Historic cultural centre
Population: 2.1 million
Leader: None

MFI Kitchenalia was the original capital of Wharf Springs. It dates back to the settling of the nation when the 5 million Liberal Do Gooders from Scandinavia arrived to start a new Left-Wing Utopia. Legend has it that it was named after British furniture store MFI as an insult to the rival IKEA corporation that had permeated Scandinavian society.

The cultural heart of the city is centred in the enormous MFI store that is visited by millions of Wharf Springians every year. It has become something of a ritual in the nation for its inhabitants to pay a yearly pilgrimage to the store and buy a new double-bed, or a fantastic pine fitted kitchen replete with an oven with a broken thermostat that turns off every 10 minutes. But the people do not let this get them down.

It was stripped of its capital designation after the "Lemon Divorce" led the government to relocate its administrative buildings in a more central city. It is widely believed by historians that it was from here that the first principles of capitalism were socialised into the people, which would later be used to such great effect in Induced Capitalism, a mere 10 miles across the border.

As a consequence, the city has been suffering a haemorrhaging of population in the decades since. Its current level of 2.1m is its lowest ever, and the only people remaining are mostly retired. The Federal government of Wharf Springs is currently waiting for them to die off so that it can finally turn the city, and its historic MFI store, into a giant filing cabinet for the many government secrets it is in the process of burying, and sometimes "accidently" burning.
