Geography
Greater Maedon(also known as the Greater Metropolitan Maedon Area or GMA) is a sub-provincial administrative district located in East Hiel, Domnonia, on the northwest facing slopes of the Hiel Range and along the Isca River. It is not a political entity but rather a group of ten different municipalities of the Maedon-Hiel Range District(MHD). The only portions of the MHD not included in the designation are those located within the Hiel Range National Park. Chael is the one exception.

Administration
The GMA is one of several metropolitan districts in East Hiel and has a population of 8,096,806 according to Statistics Domi. Its responsibilities include providing funding for non-profit arts groups, administering the water supply, providing public health services, and overseeing thirty regional parks, trails, and regional park reserves mostly located in the Chael District municipality. The GMA can also pass bylaws that are binding in its member municipalities. These include a controversial smoking ban in all public places, first introduced in 1989.
The GMA assumes responsibilities ordinarily undertaken by individual municipalities. These responsibilities include animal control, building inspection, fire protection, and parking and bylaw enforcement. The area's municipalities avail themselves of these services in a contractual arrangement with the GMA.
