Magister Equitum

The Magister Equitum is provided by the People's Cavalry Mounted Regiment, stationed at Valinskya. This regiment also provides the Praetor's escort on all state occasions and various other mounted escorts and dismounted lining parties.

History

The official Valinskya residences of the Morindiran Praetors, from Natolya Valin to the present day, have been within the M'Chaia Party Headquarters. The only access to the Headquarters before 1841 was through Magister Equitum: The Mall was closed at both ends until the opening of the Scarlet Square in that year.

The Magister Equitum are named after the troops who have mounted for the Praetor's protection on this spot since the Revolution of 1789. The Magister Equitum remains the official entrance to the M'Chaia Party Headquarters and this is why they are still mounted here.

Information

When the Praetor is in Valinskya, the Equitum consists of 1 Officer, 1 Corporal Major (who carries the Standard), 2 Non-Commissioned Officers, 1 Trumpeter and 10 Troopers. This is known as an Equitum Major.

When the Praetor is not resident in Valinskya, the Equitum is reduced to 2 Non-Commissioned Officers and 10 Troopers. This is known as an Equitum Minor. In early times the Equitum was as much as 1000 strong and provided escorts to accompany the Praetor if she travelled by road.

The People's Cavalry Mounted Regiment consists of a squadron from each of the two senior regiments of the Morindiran Army and is composed of a squadron of The Life Equitus, who wear red tunics and white plumed helmets, and a squadron of The Raven Equitus with black tunics and red plumed helmets.
