The Liberal Utopia of Maineiacs participated in its 2nd Winter Olympics in Keto, Jasi'yun. These Olympics took place in the year 2128, by the Maineiacs Calendar. The Maineiacs delegation in Keto consisted of 140 athletes; nearly double the number sent 4 years earlier to the 1st Olympiad in Aeropag, Commerce Heights. Many of the athletes from the Aeropag Olympics returned to the Games in Keto, including Bronze Medal winners Keenan Waters, in Men's Halfpipe, William "Skeet" Shorter in Men's 1500m Speedskating, and most of their Bronze-Medalist Men's Hockey team. Moguls Skier Frank Lloyd retired after Aeropag, and did not compete in Keto. In Keto, Maineiacs sent athletes to compete in events in which the nation did not compete in 2124. In one event, the Men's 20k Individual Biathlon, newcomer Damon Ryan won the Silver medal; something no Maineiacs athlete managed to do at Aeropag. Controversy, however, reared its head over the MOC delegation once again. In Aeropag, after a disappointing first week of competition, in which no medals were won, Sen. George Hiram (Socialist, Plymouth Province) began calls for the team to be withdrawn, and MOC President Luther Goran to be arrested upon his return to Maineiacs for "embarrassing the country". Voters in his district of Plymouth (Sen. Hiram represented the Boston suburbs) apparently decided that it was the Senator who had embarrassed the country -- he was recalled for mental instability in a special election a month later. The MSPN (Maineiacs Sports Programming Network) commentator who had joined in Sen. Hiram's call for withdrawal was fired. The Keto Olympics would also be marred by controversy. MOC officials alleged that Shorttrack speedskater Regina Franklin was tripped by a skater from Tynelia in the final lap of the Women's 3000m Shorttrack Relay, causing the team to be disqualified. Olympic officials declined to review the matter, and MOC had no choice but to accept the de facto ruling (the Women's Short Track team tried at one point to humorously call attention to its appeal; all 4 members began wearing T-shirts bearing the enraged likeness of MOCTA spokesman Fr. Vasily the Heavily- Accented (of the Archregimancy) and his signature phrase "Is Outrage!"; the shirts soon became a popular novelty item both in Maineiacs and among some of the other Olympic teams). Most of week 1 of the Olympics remained unproductive for Maineiacs. No further medals were won until day 6 of the competition. Then, in the Men’s Nordic Combined Individual Gundersen, Yoshiro Harada won the gold, and Kevin Gerber won the silver. The nation continued to perform well in Nordic skiing events, receiving medals in Men’s Ski Jumping Individual LH, Women’s 4x5k Cross Country Relay, Women’s Nordic Combined Sprint, Men’s Biathlon 4x7.5k Relay, and both the Men’s and Women’s Team Nordic Combined. Other highlights of week 2 included Peter Gammon’s surprise bronze in Men’s Aerials, Warren and Sophia Kelleher’s nearly flawless Free Dance to win the gold medal in Ice Dancing, and the dramatic shootout victory in the gold medal game in Men’s Hockey; as well as the tragic accident that nearly cost Alpine Skier Harry Harper his leg. MOC is currently discussing sending a delegation to the next Summer Olympics.
