Manda Mobutu (b. 1959) was one of President Mobutu's sons by his first wife. Born in Belgium, Manda was educated in Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In 1980, at age 20, he returned to Zaire and joined the army as a reservist, serving for six years and following the courses of the School of Officers of Kananga, which he left in 1986 with the rank of second lieutenant. Afterwards, he entered business. It is unknown if he harbors any political ambitions of his own.
