Mars (USM Alternate)

Mars is a region based on the forth planet from the sun, Mars. The first nation founded was Fanartica (USM Alternate) in 2040, however Mars City (now in Alutia (USM Alternate) was created in 2021. The planet began terraforming in 2030 and and was completed in 2040.

The largest political organisation on Mars is the Mars Treaty Organisation (USM Alternate) which is an alliance of many nations. The second largest power is the Central Powers (USM Alternate).

Mars has an approximate population of 2.1 billion people, about half of whom were born on the planet, and the birth rate is rapidly rising. Open door immigration policies across many Mars nations mean that there is a constant influx of immigrants from Earth. Mars is seen like a 'new world', much like the United States was during Earth's nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Terraforming

Terraforming began on Mars in 2030, with the explosion of several nuclear devices underneath the surface of the planet and the re-directing of several comets and asteroids. Several years were spent changing the levels of gas in the atmosphere to become more suitable for humans. In 2036, the oxygen, nitrogen atmosphere was finally created and the Northern Ocean began to appear. In 2038, plant life was finally introduced and quickly fertalised several parts of the planet. Much of the equator area is still desert, however. 2040 was spent as a cooling down year, in order to make sure the planet remained stable, however the first settlements were founded along with Fanartica (USM Alternate).
