The Matter Compression Engine is a Friendly Aliens technology developed to compliment the Bio Generator. It is similar to a jet engine in principle but it uses a electrically powered matter compressor instead of a fossil fuelled one. The engine sucks up air through an intake and is heated whilst the air is compressed into a smaller area. The resulting pressure is released generating propulsion.

For extra power a small amount of hydrogen is released after the compression to create an after-burner effect. But the supply of hydrogen is limited so pilots are stressed to use this only in extreme circumstances.

This engine has many advantages over the jet engine. Firstly it doesn't need a constant supply of fossil fuels which decreases cost and increases flight time significantly. Secondly space is saved because a large fuel tank isn't needed which means large energy generators can be installed as well as other large systems. Finally the engine is emission free which means it can be used on a large scale.

However the MCE does have the same weaknesses as the jet engine not based around fuel. It generates a large amount of heat and will not work in a vacuum.
