The Republic of Migali is a small series of confederated islands located within the Sea of Storms. This collection of states is run by a mixture of local and national governance. Its National laws are set down in its capital, Valencia. Migalians, are famous the world over for their unceasing technological advances, particularly with respect to urban development and ecological sustainment, and maritime travel.
92% of the population live in urban centers. These enters boast a fairly cosmopolitan mix of intellectuals, diplomats, and former-nationalists throughout the region, and the world. They are known for thier tradition of Hospitality often manifesting in publicized accounts of political asylum, but also for thier foreign policy of Militant Neutrality.
Th Republic of Migali has not taken a side in a war since the Migalian Enlightment of 1879, nor has there been outright war on Migalian soil since the Warring States Period.
It is also to be noted, that the Migalians currently maintain a queer stranglehold on intra-regional maritime trade. This is perhaps bolstered by their unceasing appetite for technological advancement in oversea travel -- a fact watched by many other nations looking to improve their own fleets. But also for their infamous refusal to give assistance to any group who ventures onto the Sea of Storms in a non-Migalian vessel - see Highliner Incident.
However, the Republic of Migali is mainly noted for thier private educational facilities which are patronized by families throughout the world, the Migalian elite, and anyone who can afford to send thier children to such schools. A common urban legend is that the national currency, the Lien, is attributed to parents who sold themselved into slavery so their children would be able to attend secondary school.
The Republic of Migali is not a member state of the United Nations, due to its unwillingness to conform to UN resolutions.
