Ranks and insignia
Every new recruit starts as a Private. After the four-month basic training, if a Private shows the necessary aptitude and skill to become a leader, they will be promoted to an NCO student and transferred to an NCO School of their service branch. Ordinary men will continue as Privates, or they may be promoted up to the rank of Corporal, usually acting as the second-in-command of a squad, and continue to serve for four months (or in some cases, six to eight months) of special training after the basic training.
After the four-month NCO School, the graduates are promoted to Junior Sergeants and for the next eight months, they will lead the new "batch" (every eight months) of recruits. During this time, they may be promoted to the rank of Sergeant, providing they have shown good leadership skills and generally behaved well according to military rules and regulations.
After an NCO has completed the mandatory service, he may apply to the Officer School, or apply to join the military as an "professional" senior NCO (Senior Sergeant, Master, Senior Master).
Officer Cadets study for either two years (graduating as Junior Lieutenant) or four years (graduating as Senior Lieutenant) at the Officer School.
