Military of Outer Vinland

The Military of Outer Vinland is the armed forces of the Republic of Outer Vinland, army, navy, and air force.

Mission

In keeping with the aims of the Republic of Outer Vinland as a state, the explicit purpose of the Vinlandic military is twofold: (a) to protect the land of the Norse race from skraelings, and (b) to "reconquer" the lands which Outer Vinland claims as its own, that is, principally the North American continent.

To achieve these goals, the military must undertake every effort to build up its strength so it can embark upon a campaign of conquest against Canada, the United States of America, and others. Considerable funding is allocated to the armed forces by the Vinlandic government; in practice, however, generals are forced to admit that they are "not quite ready" to crush Outer Vinland's enemies.

Organisation and manpower

The basic unit of the Vinlandic military is the here, usually comprising thirty-five men. Three heres make up a raid, which is hence usually 105 men strong, and thirty heres, or ten raids, constitute a micel here. At present, the Vinlandic military is pretty much exactly one micel here strong.

Out of these thirty heres, one here constitutes Outer Vinland's air force, whilst three form the navy; a further three form Outer Vinland's elite units (the "Brotherhood of Berserkers", see below); another constitutes an armoured unit, whilst the remaining twenty-two heres are Outer Vinlan's standard infantry.

Army

The army is 760 men strong. It consists of twenty-two standard infantry heres, and one armoured here.
