The Military of Snefaldia is a national military force divided into three parts: Army, Airforce, and Navy. In addition, the regional governments are allowed under the Basic Law to levy their own Militia for defense. These militia are not subjected to the same restrictions as the national military, but may be called into active service in the case of a powerful war.

The Snefaldian Military is largely intended for defense and small-scale conflicts, but there is a small, vocal section of the Tuhran Bel that advocates for storng military and Empire.

Navy

Of the three national branches, the Navy is the smallest, followed by the airforce, and then the Army. Being that Snefaldia has little to no connexion with the sea, the need for offensive naval power is low. The Navy is largely defensive, protecting the smaller islands in the Bay of Fuschal and Taxilha on the mouth of the Saard.

The Navy is divided into three main forces: Isla Squadron, Taxilha Squadron, and River Squadron.

  • Isla Squadron: Based out of Isla Breda Naval Anchorage in the bay of Fuschal, Isla Squadron is the main offensive squadron of the fleet. Commanded by Admiral James Holfrethy.
  • Taxilha Squadron: Based out of Taxilha Naval Anchorage in Taxilhad, Taxilha Squadron is mainly a defensive squadron which can also act as support for Isla Breda. Commanded by Admiral Seng-am-Rar
  • River Squadron: Smallest of the forces, this squadron is largely the river patrol of the Saard and inner Snefaldia, based in Sargedain. Commanded by Admiral Tamb Cnet.

The Navy recently contracted with the Royal Shipyards of Isselmere-Nieland to purchase two Royal Edmund-class aircraft carriers, which were delivered on September 20, 2007 after a five year construction period. The ships have been assigned to the Islan Squadron under Admiral Holfrethy.

Airforce

The Airforce is the second branch, and is largely for defensive purposes as well. Airships make up a large part of the defensive force, but modern jetfighters and stealth aircraft provide offensive capabilities. Given that the only major entrances into Snefaldia are by sea or by air (the mountains providing an excellent natural defense) it is important for the nation to have a good long-range defensive force to protect the skies over Snefaldia.

The airships that make up Snefaldia's defensive corps are highly advanced and very sturdy; very resistant to missile fire and capable of deliverinng devastating attacks on the enemy from above. The airship fleet is made up of 200 airships of varying size and power, supported by several squadrons of fast fighters, heavy bombers, and a few stealth aircraft. On most days, an airship can be seen hovering over most major cities. When not in the air, the ships are moored in large fields where they can be maintained and repaired.

Army

The Army is the largest and most important of the forces, though its importance in recent years has decreased with the unificaton of the country. The paradigm has changed from a largely offensive force controlled by various regional powers to a unified defensive force.

Composed of about 3 million volunteer soldiers, the active standing army is truly only about 900,000 at any given time, the rest being reserve servicemen. However, according to the Uniform Military Code, each soldier must rain for at least one month each year, regardless of duty status. The full army can be mobilized within one week, and deployed in ten days.

The Army also furnished several special units- marine units used by the Navy, paratroopers used by the Airforce, and elite special forces units.
