Tri Election Year

Three elections are to be held this year in Niploma, an occurance that happens only every eight years. There is the 13th 'General Election' for the Democratic House, Niploma's Lower House. Also there are the 7th Niplomian Peoples Senate elections. Finally there are local Council elections; the newest of all elections.

First Poll

All parties have begun campaigning. The first major poll from the, 'Niploma News' newspaper suggest the overall voting pattern of the electorate (exluding Council votes) to be:

  1. Libertarian Reform Party 32%
  2. Socialist Internationalist Party 30%
  3. Ecological Foundation Party 16%
  4. Grand Conservative Party 9%
  5. Official Communist Workers Party 7%
  6. Revolutionary Workers Union 4%
  7. Industrial Nationalist Foundation 3%

Recent polls are extraordinary because if SIP is pushed to opposition statues it will be the first time in Niploma's democratic history. EFP is suprised at the only small rise in votes. Analysts explain the Enviroment means little when a change of Government is on the cards.

However, rules of the Democratic House declare that unless there is 2% between the leading party and the opposition a new election must be held or a coalition formed to break the 2% gap.

However, as usual in political polls the first tend to be the most extreme. Experts predict that actually SIP will win but LRP may well be so close a Coalition will have be formed.

Second Poll

NT1, the government owned news channel, has sponsored a huge poll examining 21,634 people over their likely voting choice for the Democratic House elections. This poll is considered to be more decisive as campaigning if in full swing for elections now with the election mere weeks away. The results of the 79% of those asked who said they would be voting is so:

  1. Socialist Internationalist Party 30.24% (227 seats)
  2. Libertarian Reform Party 26.75% (201 seats)
  3. Ecological Foundation Party 17.46% (130 seats)
  4. Grand Conservative Party 6.93% (52 seats)
  5. Official Communist Workers Party 5.38% (40 seats)
  6. Revolutionary Workers Union 4.61% (35 seats)
  7. Industrial Nationalist Foundation 2.26% (17 seats)
  8. Other 0.81% (5 seats)
  9. Undecided 5.56% (43 undecided seats)

NT1s poll seems to be the first realistic poll and is a fantastic represenatation due to the amount of people asked all over the country.

SIP will be dismayed and shocked that this poll would lose them many, many seats. It is believed this is down to mainly the governmental corruption and the failure not to only fail in lowering tax but actually raising it to the near 80% level.

LRP Deputies and respective supporters will be dismayed as to why and how have they only got a quarter of the support of this poll.

Eviromentalists will be throughly pleased with the EFP picking up support in this poll, evidence that the enviroment is still a huge part of public debate.

Other parties still picked up usual support apart from the GCP who lost a third of their support, but it appears the LRP did not pick up these votes. The undecided in the poll are likely to be SIP supporters hovering over wheter or not to give thier vote to low tax choice, LRP. Even so, it appears up to 21% of the electorate does not support a party so theres still many votes to be won. It is likely the apathetics will support the new choices such as EFP and LRP for their more in touch or even 'radical' views.

All signs still point to a huge dip in support for SIP, a point echoed by LRP's leader David McKibben who commented on this poll by saying, 'It is quite clear Niploma is sick and tired of a currupt Government and ridicolous taxes. Mr Robert, mark my words, this is the end of the Socialist Internationalist political Party.'

Éibhear Elwes, young leader of the Ecological Foundation Party commented on the poll. 'I am estatic over how the EFP has grown in just two elections. We are so very thankful to our supporters. In terms of the democracy in Niploma it is likely it will now work with the three main parties rather close together. Hopefully a fully fluid debate on the enviroment at the next Democratic House will commence and, of course, with the ECP leading the way.'

There are several rumours of many members of SIP leaving to LRP before the election but it is still unknown if LRP will even accep the dissatified Socialists into what is essentially a Conservative party. A member of the OCWP hinted at talks within their party and SIP over forming a coalition. However SIP denied this claiming that they were still throughly confident that they will be re-elected as the ruling party in Niploma.

Finally, Adráin Robert, Prime Minister of Niploma and head of Socialist Internationalist Party was interviewed on NT1 over the next election. 'I don't think I'll lose anymore than 60 seats. Anymore is absolutely ludicrous.' was his reply to a question regarding the loss in the polls. As a general comment regarding the election he exclaimed, 'The fact of the matter is SIP is the party of the people. SIP's forefathers (SR) created this Republic. The Reform party has not done that. We are the party who brought your grandparents out of chains. No enviromentalist has done that. SIP is loyal to Niplomians and we work flat out five days a week to bring you everything from food to jobs. I really don't know of any other country in the Anumist Alliance we live in that has a good a life as us, you've never had it so good Niplomians.'

This election was the closest Niploma has ever seen in its Democratic process and is also the first time SIP does not head both Chambers.

SIP was given a harsh blow from reformists, enviromentalists and traditional Communists in the 13th General Election. SIP lost more than there 60 expected seats and lost a total of 64. Indeed, there is less than 1% seperating the Government and the Libertarian Reformists. Yet, it is still a suprise to many that SIP won. SIP will be embaressed and devestated at having lost the Senate elections. Repurcussions for the party (and the whole Niplomian political spectrum) include that if SIP can pass any Bills it is very unlikely the Bill can pass the Senate.

LRP will be disapointed at having come second but nether the less will be estatic over the result. With a mere seven seats seperating the two parties it will mean all Bills SIP try to pass will almost all fail. To add insult to injury at the Socialists, LRP will not sit in Government with them. Many analysts claim there may have to be another General Election as numbers are too close.

Ecological Foundation party stood in its second General Election and gained a further 48 seats. Although some Green optimists in the party claimed they would have won, well over 20% of the vote. However, the party should be very pleased at their results - especially in the Senate, where they gained 23 seats out of nowhere.

Communists in the Official Communist Workers Party shot up to fourth place, a result no-one could have expected. However, the party lost a substantial four seats in the Senate - losing them significant power in the scrutinising chamber.

On the right of Niplomian politics losses were substantial. The traditional and famous Grand Conservative Party lost nearly half of their support in the Democratic House and roughly a third of support in the Senate. Extreme right wing working party, Industrial Nationalist Foundation, were pushed out of the political spectrum.

It is believed SIP's 8% loss of support went to the LRP, EFP and some voters felt distanced from SIP and added to the OCWP support base. LRP's gain of votes is believed to be mostly from SIP supporters and ex GCP supporters. As per usual EFP won most votes from post-apathists.

Councillor percentage numbers were as expected, but SIP will be pleased with a clear lead over other parties.

One should also note the nine new members to the Democratic House, the independents. These include Muslims, Pensioner Awareness Party, moderate Christians and Gaelic nationalists. As a whole, they are supportive of SIP.

It is easy to see this election result is a severe problem for the new SIP government. There are several talks of Coalitions in the Democratic House. Yet, both SIP and LRP will not go into talks. Luckily for the Government most of the independents and perhaps the Ecological Foundation Party will join in a coalition. No other party is likely to join this Centre-Left (green) Coalition, especially due to all other parties opposing the UN. This Coalition would give 366 to 375 seats, a substantial and very comfortable majority.

Although other parties cannot join a Government the Grand Conservative Party and Industrial Nationalist Foundation are in talks over joining together to make a larger voice for Niploma's right wing supporters.

Adráin Robert walked out of the Democratic House today for a Press Conferance. He stated, Naturally I am thoroughly dissapointed with the result. However, in the last few weeks SIP has shown a severe change in direction. We will be keeping this for the next four years in Government. I am confident the Democratic House will still support our many reforming Bills for the country. When asked over calling a new General Election due to the such small majority his party held Mr. Robert said, There will be no need with the talks we are in. Also may I say that I will be remaining Prime Minister.

However, head of the LRP David McKibben explained that Mr. Roberts so called proposals for a reformed Niploma are a mere steal of our parties ideals. May I also say that with SIPs pitifully small majority we will continue to challange their huge wrongs but may i also extend hand to SIP if and when they propose anything we agree with. I just sincerly hope Mr. Robert has woken from his sleep after this election, for the next time he shuts his eyes we'll be forming a Government.

An estatic Éibhear Elwes hugged and kissed supporters of his party over new results. When asked over a possible coalition he told reporters it would only be possible if Ecological reforms could be promised. However, the EFP is pleased with new spending on the Enviroment.

The OCWP, along with the GCP failed to comment on the results. The RWU members have not been seen since the polling - thier huge losses should severly damage the paramilitary organisation.
