The Oliverrian Football League (OFL) is the professional Gridiron league of Oliverry, consisting of twelve teams from Oliverrian cities. The league's teams are not divided yet in divisions, even though this has been a matter of discussions in the year.

During the regular season, the teams plays once against each other team. Other plans are being reviewed, such as making teams play twice against each teams in their division (see bottom for informations about this). At the end of season, top 8 teams advance to the OFL Playoffs, a single-elimination tournament that culminates with the Northern Bowl, the championship match of the OFL. In the quarter-finals, 1st seed playing against 8th, 2nd against 7th and so on. The Northern Bowl is played in a pre-determinated place, determinated 2 years before the event. Before the playoffs, the all-star game is played, facing a team made of the Champion and Finalist teams to a team made of the 10 other teams. The host is usually determinated at the beginning of the season and is generally an emerging market or a city that postulated to host the Northern Bowl.

For its first season, the OFL had a very good average attendance, with an attendance of 46,251 per game. This is still under what the Première Ligue Pepsioli gets, even while using the same stadia, which makes for comparisions between the two leagues.

The leagues has its office located on 13535 Rue de l'Archevêché, Marshalliston.

Teams

There are currently twelve teams in the OFL. Every team is located in Oliverry. Most major cities have an OFL franchise. Some little cities too (for example, Lexington Hills and Trenton) have a team. The Marshalliston Lions is the most lucrative team of the league, valued at approximately Ø1 billion.

Season Structure

Exhibition Structure

Exhibition games can be played against any team, even those not playing the Oliverrian Football code but a game code considered as a similar gsmr from the world for the two months before the regular season. Only one game per week is tolerated by the league, or else, point penalties can be applied.

Regular season

The OFL season begins the third weekend of May, and continues for the next 12 weeks, each team getting 1 bye week. Each team plays every other teams twice.

Next season, many changes will happen as for the schedule: First, the champion team is gonna play its first game against the finalist team, so that the finalist team can take its revenge.

Playoffs

At the conclusion of each season, the top 8 teams advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament, which culminates with the Northern Bowl.

The teams are then seeded: #1 team plays the #8 team, the #2 team plays the #7, the #3, #6 and #4 plays #5.

The winner of game #1 (#1 vs #8) plays the winner of game #3 (#3 vs #6) and the winner of game #2 (#2 vs #7) plays the winner of game #4 (#4 vs #5). The winners of each game advance to the Northern Bowl Game.

The higher seed always host the match, excepted for the final, where the match is held on neutral (not-always though) field.

Tie-breaking Rules

To determine who gets a higher seed, the OFL determines a set of tie-breakers. Here they are, in order:

  • Number of Points scored
  • Point Difference
  • Coin Toss

The Draft

The OFL draft happens each year, in the first week-end of November. The draft is a process where teams get to select players which will then be a part of the team. Its goal is to strenghten weak teams more than good teams. The order is determined by the order of the last season, which means that the Northern Bowl champion is not always the last to draft. Currently, there are 5 rounds of drafting.

Usually, the players selected come from Oliverrian Universities, but sometimes, they can also come from provincial leagues. Players can be drafted if the following conditions are met:

  • The player is between 20 and 25;
  • He completed his Grade Tertiaire;
  • Has played football in the last two years anywhere in the world.

Free Agents

Players can be acquired from anywhere in the world. Once a player has been dropped from any team in the world, that player is considered as a Free Agent in the league. So, any team from the league may pay for that player. The players dropped from the league are also considered as Free Agents, but not from the same category:

  • National Free Agents: These players are Free Agents that come from Oliverry.
  • International Free Agents: These players come from other leagues all around the world.
  • Restricted Free Agents: These players are under 25 and have to stay with their team even if a contract hasn't been signed. But, those players can be claimed by any team from the league by paying 200% of its salary: 100% to the team that the player was owned by and 100% to the player.

Television

National-level

The OFL has an interesting contract with national television TéléOli, which broadcast everywhere in Oliverry. One match each Sunday is presented at the national television. The national television revenues are shared equally between the teams.

Local-level

Each team has its own affiliation with local television so that games are broadcasted locally.
