Pacificain
The Allied States of Pacificain is a small, safe nation, remarkable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 230 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 19%. A powerful private sector is dominated by the Automobile, Aviation, and Software industries.
The government is avowedly atheist, tourists from around the world come to visit the country's famous rainforests, and citizens select which government department gets their income tax Pacs each year. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is nonexistant. Pacificain's national animal is the Red Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Pac.
History
The Begining
The Allied States of Pacificain were originally part of the nation of Pasamicain. Pasamicain was founded in 11B.C. The country then was a unity of many small tribes, four of those were located on the island of Pacificain. Hanel the Great began gathering the leaders of the different tribes together every year inorder to make decissions that would benifit all the tribes. Over the course of 10 years this assembly, lead by Hanel, accomplished many great things such as establishing a network of roads, a single currency, bridges connectiong Pacificain to the mainland, and creating a single military. This was the high point of Ancient Pasamicain, everyone in the tiny nation was proud of thier government and Hanel. The assembly soon decided they needed to create a capital city. The different tribes, which had now grown into states, could not decide where the capitol should be located. This decission nearly tore the country appart. However, in his great wisdom, Hanel proposed that a new city be created. This was accptable.
The Nameless Capitol
The terain of the country made it difficult to find a proper location for the city. The Grand Assembly decided that the capital would not need to be very large, only requireing a capital and other government buildings. The locatoin selected was a small valley surrounded mountains and canyons, one of the few such vallies in the country. However, the Assembly underestimated how much the idea of this capital would affect the people. People came from all across the country to help in the creation of the nameless capital. Hanel watched over the construction and soon realized there was not enough space in the small valley for the number of people who were flooding in to help. So Hanel decided that they would begin digging downward, and the city was shapeing into an underground city. The entire country was united with the creation of this city. However, their great leader was unable to see the end result of his dream. 28 Years after the he first brought the leaders of the divided tribe together, Hanel the Great died (17A.D.). The Grand Assembly named the capital Hanelport in his honor, and a great memorial was built in the center of the city.
Resolving Crisis and Development of a Government
Hanel had never married and had never chosen a sucessor. The natoin stood devided on the issue of a new leader. The Grand Assembly debated for 6 months on how a leader should be chosen. Finally they came out of the assembly chambers and decreed that an election would be held. The election would be help in 2 months. Finally 8 months after the death of Hanel, the people chose Erin Tathly as their new leader. The country continued to develope culturaly and politically over the next 1800 years. A few conficts eruppted and ended, but over all the government was stable. Until a man named Hanus Ramius came to power.
Fall of Freedom
In the year 1800 a man by the name of Hanus Ramius came to power. He won in a land slide victory credited mostly to his amazing speaking abilities. He came in with the stong support of the people, however he would missuse that support. In his first month in office he began the suddle process of disbanding the peoples political freedoms and the set checks and balances. His first act was making himself High Commander and ending future electoins. Anyone who showed any doubt in him would disappear. However in his second term the Grand Assembly Challenged his power. It was then that he prevoked civil war. Folowing the Grand Assembly's challenge to his power the systemaqtically had each memeber exicuted. Then many states began to revolte. All four states on the island of Pacificain left Pasamicain. The rebelions on the mainland were quickly put down. However, Ramius' forces found the island of Pacificain more resiliant. A vast majority of the Pasamicain navy was based on the island of Pacificain due to its natural ports. So Ramius could not rely on a blockade. He was forced to cross one of the three bridges to the island in order to engage the Pacificain forces led by John Cain. When Ramius' massive army began to cross, the bridges exploded followed shortly by the destruction of the other bridges. Ramius now had no way on to the island and was forced into a fragile peace. Over the next two centuries both countries, Pacificain and Pasamica, would be consistantly threatend by war.
The Cain Dynasty
Since the original settlement of Pasamicain, a Cain has always held a seat in power. The island its self is named for the famous family. A Cain led the first settlers to the island and set up the first tribes. Karl Cain was a member of the first Grand Assembly,as well as close friend and advisor to Hanel the Great. A Cain was elected to represent one of the four states of Pacificain to almost every Grand Assembly. Ben Cain was a member of the last Grand Assembly, and was the first member of the assembly to challenge Ramius. It was his death that angered the people of Pacificain to the point of rebellion. John Cain, Ben's brother, then lead the rebel forces. He worked with other rebeling states on the island and the mainland. However his efforts were not enough to save the mainland. So allied with the other states of the Pacificain island, forming the Allied States of Pacificain. He decided to destroy the bridges connecting the island to the mainland and take Ramius' forces with them. At the end of the rebellion was he was elected the first President of Pacificain. He then devoted funding to improve the already powerful navy. It is much due to him that Pacificain has one of the most powerful navies in the world. Since John Cain, there have been 8 Cain presidents, and there has all ways been a Cain involved in the federal government. The family is the closest thing the small island has to a royal family, and the people love and adore all members of the family.
Koloneth War
After their war for independence the people of Pacificain were under constant threat of attack from the state of Pasamica. Their only form of protection was their navy, and the people of Pacificain were willing to do whatever it took ensure their navy was the most powerful in the region. This required them to envolved themselves in several wars. The geography of Pasamica give no are for harbors or shipyards, this kept Pasamica's navy very small, however on an island a short distance farther than Pacificain there were many natural harbors. This island of Koloneth was home to two nations that fighting a war over a disputed supply of coal for 20 years. These nations, the Kingdom of Forneth and the Hurloub Federation, had developed a powerful militaries over the course of the war. However neither could gain an upperhand over the other. That was until Pasamica allied itself with the Kingdom of Forneth in 1861. Innitially it did not involve itself directly in the war, but it supplied Forneth with many resources such as coal, steel, gunpowder, ect. All of these resources were ubundant in Pasamicas Mountinous terrain. In exchange Korneth would build ships for Pasamica. It was this arrangement drew the attention of Pacificain. The Pacificain government secretly began supplying Hurloub with some of their naval technology and would build ships for Hurloub. In exchange Hurloub would use their new naval might to blockade the Forneth ports producing the ships for Pasamica. This action promted Pasamica to delcare war on Hurloub on August 16th, 1862. With the help of the Pasamican Army, Forneth was able to disrupt the supply lines to the blockade forcing Hurloub to withdraw their ships. With the threat of Pasamica gaining enough power to reach their shores, the Nation of Pacificain was forced into the war on the side of Hurloub on August 24, 1862. The majority of the fighting took place around the island of Koloneth, with a few naval battles near the shores of Pasamica and Pacificain. After two years of fighting the Pacificain navy was able to blocade every port in Forneth, cutting them off from their allies. In the next few months Pacificain hunted down and destroyed the Pasamican navy. This combined with a number of ground victories on the side of Pacificain and Hurloub was enough to bringing an end to the war. Forneth was forced to hand over controll of their ports to Pacificain and Hurloub. This affectivly brought and end to the alliance between Forneth and Pasamica. With no way to defend themselves from invasion the government of Pasamica was forced to sign the treaty on December 19th, 1864.
