History
Just as his father before him, Constantine I, King of the Hellenes was assinated during a military coup in 1915. This new psuedo-communist government, pushed forward by the recent power grab by Lenin in 1910, declared themselves as the true Greeks. The Orthodox Church was almost completely destroyed if had been not been for what is now present day Wotaningia. Three years later, factions within Greece, called themselves Patonians and even claimed their lineage went back to the mythical/historical figure known as Patroklus, from Homer's Illiad. A brutal Civil War erupted between those who declared themselves as Greek and those as Patonians. The Greco-communists slaughtered many Patonians, where as the Patonians being more a part of the intelligensia, refrained from brutal killings. The Greco-communists were finally defeated in late 1919 and a new monarchy was established. Basing themselves on Byzantine and Greco models, the new country was named Pation and the first Czar (coming from the former Russian monarchy and also from Caesar) was James (Iakobos - New Testament Greek) II. The new government also established a more liberal form of the original Orthodox Church, which called itself simply the Patonian Orthodox church. All religions were welcome in Pation, and many dispersed Orthodox christians moved back into their former towns and villages. The nation remained mostly isolated, trying to rebuild itself back to its ancient glory. Although Patonians are essentially Greek, no one ever refers to this, for it harks back bad memories of the atrocities commited by the Greco-communists. Patonians consider themselves Patonians and nothing else.

In the present world, the Holy Empire of Pation is an ever-growing nation on the Aegean Penninsula. A leading member in the Black Sea Defense and Economic Alliance and also an advocate for the creation of the Council of Europe, Pation seeks out cooperation between nations and peace for Western Europe. With a escalating economy, the Patonian Miren serves as a good, stable currency. The last census puts the population of Pation now around 526 million, with the birthrate each year increasing.

Capital
Illoria is a large beautiful city, known for its cleanliness and for for its beautiful waterfront on the Aegean Sea. The ancient ruins of the Acropolis are also in the central part of the city and serves as a major tourist attraction. Only a few years ago, the Acropolis underwent a major restoration, returning the glorious ruins to some former glory.
With a population of almost 7 million in the city and its surrounding areas, Illoria is Pation's largest city. The Imperial Palace a few Km outside the center of the city and has its own waterfront. The Government center is located near the business district in the center of the city.

(OOC: Unlike present-day Athens, Illoria is a very clean and un-polluted city, yet is more modern with smaller skyscrapers and other buildings. It is much a more remarkable city, with the Acropolis a shining tourist attraction. The Imperial Palace is where the present day Port of Pireas is, yet unlike real life, is relatively under developed as much space is reseved for the Imperial Palace and surrounding parks and gardens. After the Civil War, Athens was transformed into a beautiful metropolis re-named Illoria. The city is very welcoming for outsiders and tourists as there are many great restaurants, shops, theaters, international districts, and crime is almost unheard of, even throughout all of Pation. As Pation is an environmental friendly nation, the government has returned Illoria to its former beauty as Ancient Athens once had. Trees and Parks have returned, along with beautiful vistas of the city and sea.)
