From the Army of New Martinique

To Major Marion, Poiret's aide de camp, the General was like a man on fire. He was rode constantly back and forth along the coastal road, setting up roadblocks, building strongpoints, even helping the Company engineers set up their blasting powder for another landslide.

And he certainly needed that energy. Poiret had more than 30,000 soldiers at his disposal, but most were local militia, full of enthusiasm but short on everything else. He spoke to the Colonel of one now.

The man's name was Piccarde, an Army Captain, who had resigned his commission for the Company Army and now controlled an entire regiment. "They're great lad's, really they are." he said, gazing at his men, who dug feverishly to set up the defenses marked roadblock 237 on the General's map. "But they're a wild bunch. They make the finest bunch of light infantry you've ever seen, but it's a bugger shaping them into proper line infantry. Bless your heart, sir," he said with a grin when he saw the General's lok of concern. "They'll fight as hard as any Sicinian lads. They're good lads," he said again, this time in Laatzenian.

New Martinique was readying for war.
