Pervaya Liga

The Pervaya Liga is the premier division in the ladder of football leagues in the Varangian Confederacy. It is comprised of sixteen teams that play home and away matches against eachother in a thirty game season.

Teams earn three points for every victory, one point for a tie, and zero points in a losing effort. The team which garners the most points at the end of the season earns the highest honor for a club team in the Confederacy, the Tsar's Cup.

The fate of the three teams which earn the least points at the end of the season is much more dire. They are relegated to the next league down on the ladder and the top three point earners in that division are promoted to the Liga.

History

Founded in the early 1900s as a counterpart to the Wysterian Varangian Pervaya Liga, the Confederate Pervaya Liga has only recent emerged from homeland's premier league. With complete independence from the Wysteria-based empire in 2006, the league renamed its top prize the "Tsar's Cup" from the "Viceroy's Bell" to parallel the political changes that took place during that banner year.

Before 2006, the three Varangian states had independent leagues. The Viceroy's Bell was awarded to the the winner of the New Varangian First League. A Golden Eagle was awarded to the Lituvan Independent Football League and the Grand Duke's Chalice was awarded to the Greater Masurian Colonial League.
