The Holy Empire of Quickly is a tiny, socially progressive nation, but this does not deter its more backward-thinking members from develpoing highly strung and improbable opinions based on very little evidence, let alone proof.
Quickly is also notable for its absence of drug laws. Because of this, most of the inhabitants find it almost impossible to commit acts of crime, as they are "just too darned mellow, man" (quote: Arthur Andrews III; Lord Cheif Mayor of the Holy Empire of Quickly, and Protectorate Enamelled) This is not to say that the nation does not require any form of emergency services; these do exist. However, there are no full-time employees in this industry, as no situation is ever considered as enough of an emergency by the inhabitants of Quickly to warrant calling these services.
Its compassionate, intelligent population of 6 million are fiercely patriotic, but allow slurs against their great nation if clearly expressed in jest, and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt. They do not judge them on this though, preferring to wait until the metaphorical final page of the individual book before passing judgment.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison, due to the rather atheistic and openly drug-taking behavioural patterns of the populus given above.
The average income tax rate is 68%, and even higher for the wealthy, thus keeping the serfs, inbreds, and other such mutant classes room to breathe, and accept their lowly and 'spat-on' station in life. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Beef-Based Agriculture. This allows the few to make a tidy untaxed 'little extra', while the masses suffer under yet more impoverished circumstances.
Quickly's national animal is the US dollar, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the platypus. The trade in illegal platypodes has been resticted however, with the compulsory installation of purple dye bombs in groups of more than 10, in operation since early last year. These bombs are triggered to explode if the platypus is tampered with, affected or affrighted in any manner, rendering that unit of currency null and void.
Quickly is ranked 1540th in the region, although the peoples, as a whole, do not boast about this.
Quickly is ranked 33,213th in the world for Largest Publishing Industry, and the inhabitants DO like to make sure that this fact is known as widely as is possible.
