Ravenrock is a region founded where the seeds of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, washed ashore. The region was established to create a lively, stable, safe and very active place for those who like to play their nations in character and creatively. All forms of national government are welcomed and the region has a very diverse membership. UN membership and involvement is strongly encouraged, as is participation on the regional forum. Nations take part in the collective weaving of stories, writing of news and historical reports, exchanges of witty (and less witty) comments, creative writing of national events, and light roleplaying of intrigue and political conflict. While full war roleplays are not hosted here, some of the nations of Ravenrock are very militarily active and do take part in those from time to time by setting them up in other regions.

The region of Yggdrasil was the first home of many of the nations of Ravenrock because of the link of that region’s name to Norse mythology. Our other shared values are many and our debt to that revered region is enduring. The two regions are bound by the Treaty of Idavoll, which is displayed in its entirety on the regional forum at http://www.1-2-free-forums.com/mf/ravenrock-about104.html.

The region is made up of a series of large islands surrounded by many smaller ones. The coastlines are typically extremely rugged, but there are numerous safe harbors to be found with proper charts. The weather is relatively mild and temperate in most parts, but the geography varies greatly and has great effect on the climate. There are sheer cliffs, vast deserts and barren wastelands, carpets of pristine wilderness, and towering mountains.

The region was founded on 12 March, 2005 by the Ravendancers of Ojacid. It has grown slowly and steadily since that time and has now built an active base of nations, a vital regional forum, positive connections with many of the world’s regions and nations, a detailed map of major nations of the land, and a web site to coordinate access to all of those resources. The region is undertaking the drafting of a constitution over the summer and hopes to have one ratified by September 2005.

The Ravenrock Ministry of Communications (http://www.1-2-free-forums.com/mf/ravenrock.html) is the forum site for the region. It is the home of The Winged Inquisitor, Ravenrock’s newspaper, the National Historians Guild, the Polling Booth, and discussion sites for regional and United Nations issues. Several locations exist for nations to host roleplaying threads or to write serials playing out their own nation’s events. A quite popular site lets players step out-of-character and swap information on interests, real world events, and other issues.
