The Rethast Origins

The Rethast were once human, and of the planet Ataster. However, during a war with the people of Martoch (the Martochians and also human), a mass chemical bombardment of the planet took place. The resultant wave of acidic gases and radiation leaked through the ravaged atmosphere led to mass mutation and death amongst the Rethast people, turning them from Human into Rethast.

Notable Propeties of the Rethast

Sight

Rethast sight was, for the first few generations, very poor. But now their eyesight is the same as a human, although if their eyes go too long without the acidic air of Rethan, they do wear out and the Rethast may turn blind.

Strength

Rethast are far stronger physically than humans. Able to lift massive weights far exceding a human, Rethast are also tougher. Due to the increased density and toughness of their muscles, Rethast can withstand wounds which would kill a human, even to the point of taking a bullet to the chest and still remain standing.

Build

Rethast also stand taller than most humans, with the average 20 year old male reaching six and a half feet with ease. In addition, Rethast are far stockier than humans, which when combined with their height makes them appear gigantic, easily dwarfing a human.

Required Surroundings

Rethast can go for short periods of time without the acidic air and high levels of radiation of their homeworld. However, beyond 48 hours they need the high levels of sulphur dioxide in their atmosphere. After 72 hours without the required air, a Rethast will die. They can go indefinitely without the radiation however, although they need massive amounts of protein to keep their vital systems functioning.

Appearance

Rethast are,as mentioned before, taller and of larger build than humans. There is also other characteristics to distinguish them.

Rethast all have white, almost silvery, hair which never grows longer then about one or two inches or are bald. Their eyes appear cloudy, and have no colour. Their skin is pale white making them appear sickly, and is often dry especially when away from their native air. They also sweat profusely from around their eyes without the correct atmosphere.
