Pre-history of Roy the Mighty

In the year 213, a band of Royish nomads journeyed from across the Gacfek Mountains into the fertile land of Shagraths, founding the region of Sagraths. Shagraths’ boundary’s were the Urlak River in the south, the Wegter dessert to the west, and the Gacfek mountains to the North and East. These peoples, believed to be the Royish, had fled from the lands to the north of Shagraths, hoping to escape years of tyranny from a Ronalon king, who had conquered the Royish in the year 198. In the year 223 though, the Ronalon king died, and his son, Ronkonkoma, attepted to conquer Shagraths, but failed after a long war, to be known as the war of Independence from Ron (224-239). It is at this time that the Royish people became a dominant force in the world. Little else is known at this time, as most written records of this time were destroyed in the nuclear holocaust to come.

First encounters with the Scarm

In the year 316, the first Scarminian (natives of the then nomadic tribe of Scarm) ventured into Shagraths, coming from the south, crossing the Urlak River. Scarm records say that they were lead by a legendary leader, named Greig of Scarm, but Royish accounts say the first group was lead by a scrawny and weak man named Pete Rith. Despite the controversy, the Scarminians established good relationships, and soon had negotiated a small parcel of land in the north east of Shagraths, promising to act as a first line of defense in case of an attack from the Ronalon king, Ronian, who had taken the throne from his father, Rongog, who had taken the throne from his father, Ronkonkoma. The Scarminians set up a stronghold in Koldig, a mountain fortress originally built and occupied by Royish insurgents in the war of Independence.

The Nuclear War

In the year 349, the Ronalon king, Ronkonkoma II, (Ronian had died in 339), ordered Nuclear bombs to be dropped in an attempt to shake loose the Scarminian stronghold of Koldig. The Scarminians suffered horrendous loses, but held firm, holding the stronghold until Royish soldiers could come to their aid. In response, Ronkonkoma II ordered strafing across Shagraths with ground based Nuclear missiles from their home region. What followed was pure chaos, as almost 50 % of the Scarminian civilian population perished, though the rest were able to find sanctuary in massive underground bunkers constructed in the Gacfek mountains, and almost all of the Royish finding safety in the relatively undamaged Wegter dessert. Their, the Royish and Scarminians waited for the time to strike.

The battle of Hackjic

In March of 350, the Ronalon army, suffering horrific loses, took control of Koldig, and prepared to descend into the plains of Shagraths. Near the town of Hackjic, 3,000 Royish and 2,000 Scarminian militia held of close to 25,000 Ronalon foor soldiers and close to 5,000 tank units. The Royish and Scarminian forces, lead by Royald the Great, took little losses, but inflicted heavey losses on the Ronalons, who lost nearly half their men. But this did not stop them, and soon, the Royish army was in full retreat, with the Scarminians delaying the Ronalon onslought.

The fight in Irget forest

The retreating forces of the Royish met up with the Royish and Scarminian reserves that had been marching from the Urlak river in the Irget forest. Royald the Great ordered about a quarter of his men, 5,000 light infantry and about 2,000 engineers, to build a hasty defensive line in the Irget forest. The rest were to go to the Refigit river, and build a defensive perimeter in case his forces were crushed. The Ronalon, seriously underestimating the strength of the Royish and Scarminian forces, believed all of them to have retreated, so marched into the Irget forest, and when they were literaly on top of the Royish and Scarminians, who were well camouflaged, were nearly wiped out. About 25,000 Ronalon perished in the battle, which lasted about three hours. Royish and Scarminian casualtys were relatively light. This act forced the Ronolan army to halt, and wait for more supplies.

Final bombings

Ronkonkoma II, angered by the lose at Irget forest, ordered the Nuclear bombing of every inch if Shagraths. When this had been accomplished, he thought, his men would simply move in and wipe out any form of resistance. The radio transmission of this was intercepted by Royish insurgents in the Gacfek mountains, and the message was relayed to Royald the Great. It was then that he believed the Royish had had enough of this war, and asked the Scarminians to find a new place to live, while he engaged in an act to try and prevent the bombings. Royald sent envoys to Ronkonkoma, who simply executed them and sent their heads back in baskets. Royald began to have his men flee across the border, following the Scarminians across the Urlak river. Just as the last Royish troops crossed the river, the first bombs began to fall.

The 100 year wanderings

The Scarminians led the Royish through the wastelands to the south of the Urlak river, leaving behind all traces of the Shagrath region. What followed was a 100 year wandering of the two peoples. Royal the Great perished in a sand storm after wandering for 44 years, and his son Roybold the Strange died after wandering with his peoples 50 years later, living to be 104. He credited this to eating his fathers flesh after his death, leading to his name, as it was not a custon followed by the Royish. When his son, Roy the Mighty, came to power, the leader of the Scarminians, George Ghaten, led his people into the region of Vulcanth. He sent back scouts to Roy the Mighty, saying the land was rich, with money growing on trees and beer flowing freely.

The founding of Vulcanth

Roy the Mighty established a land in the South West corner, which was an important route to get from the sea of Gaet into the heart of Vulcanth. Here, Roy the Mighty set up a powerfull trading empire, which was dwarfed only by the Scarminian trade empire. Roy the Mighty lives today, and his nation has never been stronger. The Empire of Scarm is now led by Gearge Ghaten II, who succeded his father 5 years after he founding of Vulcanth.
