Saidercray Today is a daily newspaper that is commonly read all over Saidercray.

History

Saidercray Today's first edition was published on October 25, 1927. It came into being after the amalgamation of The Saider Times and The Cray Herald, two daily left-wing newspapers which until then were distributed inside the former borders of Saider and Cray, so that they co-existed without being competitors to each other. The fusion should create a nationwide left-wing alternative to the conservative Saidercrayan Express. Together with the rise of the left-wing parties in the 1930s, the success of Saidercray Today began. In 1938, the newspaper was market leader for the first time. Saidercray Today was created as a purely political newspaper, but one by one, other themes became interesting for the editors and got sections of their own- Economy in 1939, Culture in 1952, Provincial News in 1961 and Sports in 1968. Topically, the editors discuss about whether or not to create a new section Science And Technology. In 2006, when Saidercray joined the International Democratic Union, Saidercray Today began to publish an online version.

Structure and style

Saidercray Today subdivides into five sections: National And International Politics, Economy, Culture, Sports, Provincial News. Whilst the contents of the first four sections are identic in all copies of one day, the fifth section provides the readers with news from their home province. Therefore, the fifth section's contents differ in the provinces of Saidercray.
Saidercray Today usually endeavours to write in an unbiased way and includes a lot of quotations into its articles. At the end of an article, the author usually evaluates the events the article reports on and weighs possible future developments - a practice that may be compared to the reporter's statement at the end of many reports in TV news. The last paragraph is therefore often more subjective than the foregoing ones. Saidercray Today is left-wing orientated. The appearance of a copy of Saidercray Today, which is a tabloid, is clearly dominated by letters. On an average, there is one medium-sized picture per two pages, yet this picture is at any rate coloured. For the sake of a better orientation, the different sections are optically discriminated by coloured frames at the pages' edges - blue for National and International Politics, green for Economy, orange for Culture, red for Sports and black for Provincial News.

The Saidercray Magazine

In 2007, Saidercray Today will begin to publish a magazine in addition to the newspaper. Whereas Saidercray Today provides the reader with news on everything important which happened recently, The Saidercray Magazine which comes out every month's 1st monday, deals on 50 pages with a core topic, and includes comments, long in-depth analytic articles and so on in a much more comprehensive and thorough way than it could be done in a newspaper. The Saidercray Magazine shares Saidercray Today's web site. Subscribers to Saidercray Today will get a ten page core version of The Saidercray Magazine as a free supplement to Saidercray Today. The first Saidercray Magazine will be published on May 7, 2007, with its topic being "Stay-at-homes and birds of passage - Saidercray in the age of globalization".
