The Trilateral as it was called, seized power in 1970 after brutally killing the off the members of the People's Assembly and taking control of the Romanian military. The Kremlin knew this would take more than a few thousand soldiers to take back control of their former puppet. They were determined not to loose control.
On April 6, 1971, Brezhnev gave Executive Order 46711 (4/6/71 - First Executive Order) calling for the immediate invasion of Romania and total destruction of the ruling bodies. It occured. Later that very day, bombing raids began on border military installations across the country.
Soon enough, Romania would feel the grip of the Iron Curtain. Soviet soldiers quickly stormed the almost undefended nation, killing anything and everything in their path. Rumors leaked from behind the Journalism Blackouts into the West, but due to being tied up in Mississippian revolts and other matters, they were unable to react.
The Soviet Union is so effecient, that some equate this killing to the Nazi genocide, or worse. They are almost indiscriminate, killing anyone and everyone that appears to have bourgeois sympathies.Entire towns are destroyed because one person believes that the Trilateral should rule.
The war only lasts a year, but the death toll was staggering. At least twenty million civilians are killed or missing. Romanian soldiers are completely decimated until the Soviets reach Bucharest in early 1972. The city has become a fortress. Surrounded by technologically advanced defensive devices, the Soviet Union is forced to pull forth the Lena All-Terrain Walking Fighter. The massive mechanical behemoth is capable of firing 180mm ETC rounds through a single barrel up to 3.455 kilometers away. This is exactly what they do.
Using the massive Lena, the Soviets bombard the walls of the city, tearing it to pieces in forty-eight hours, allowing for Soviet soldiers to advance into the city. This is the first time the international community has seen one of the Soviet Union's toys in action. It won't be the last.
The Trilateral is destroyed within a week of bloodshed. Each member is considered still missing and suspected dead or imprisoned. After this horrible battle (The Battle of Lena's Bucharest), the Soviet Union annexes Romania as the Romanian Soviet Socialist Republic
Causes
The causes for the Second Great Balkan Conflict are still officially unknown. However, political analysts and politco-economists have debated and come up with ten reasons that the Soviet Union invaded Romania for:
• Wish to advance farther into Europe.
• The destruction of one of the fledgling capitalist nations.
• To display Soviet might to the international community.
• The need for more area due to the Soviet Union's growing population.
• Finished what they started and seize total control of Romania and thus a major shipping lane.
• It's part of a massive expansionist plan to seize all of Europe (Worldwide Mir Initiative)
• Create a footing near Kaliph al Musileem.
• Gain economic clout due to fear from smaller nations.
• Cause worldwide revolutions against capitalist and imperialist administrations.
• Begining of an expansionist, jingoist policy.
The Speech
</div>On April 6, 1971, Premier Brezhnev makes a speech to the international community and Soviet people, telling them of his plans. This takes place directly after a meeting with the Political Bureau n which he called for the Executive Order 46711.
As Brezhnev was speaking, soldiers were crossing the Soviet-Romanian border. Aircraft were bombarding key military installations and economic sources. Battlecruisers and even a Totaltarian Clas Command Dreadnaught was off the Romanian coast, bombarding the massive coastal cities with ETC shells.
B-90 bombers flew over the metropolitan centers, dropping thousands of conventional, and some even speculate, chemical warheads. A great holocaust began to rise within the nation of Romania. A fire that would eventually consume the entire nation in travesty and destruction.
</div>Ten Miles From Bucharest - The Exclusion Zone
Ten miles outside of Bucharest, the Soviet soldiers reached what has been named the Zone. This was a massive defensive line of Romanian tank, self-propelled artillery, razor wire, trenches, and minefields. The Soviet Union, however, had a plan. Pulling forth the newly constructed Lena AFW, they shot apart the defensive line and walls of the city, effectively destroying it.
Bucharest was under seige, the Trilateral was within the Central Administrative Complex and were still getting served tea as their citizens were slaughtered and their army tore apart. They sat, listening to the screams as the Soviet soldiers advanced to the city walls.
A twenty-fourt hour period of total bombing occured before the Red Army actuall entered the city. B-90's, Soviet B-2's, Soviet F-117's, and other craft dropped thousands of tonnes of explosives on the city, utterly decimating it and forcing the families of the Trilateral beneath the Central Administrative Complex. Soon enough, the Soviets advanced into the city, and began their search for the Trilateral.
</div>It Ends
The Second Great Balkan Conflict ended with the disappearance of the members of the Trilateral and the installation of a centralized democratic government within the new Romanian Soviet Socialist Republic. After this occured, and some consider farse elections happened, the Romanian SSR was annexed into the Soviet Union and expanded the Iron Curtain across the Balkans.
It is yet to be determined what actually occured to the members of the Trilateral. Most agree that they were executed or at least imprisoned in a labour facility. Considering the documents detailing the Trilateral's whereaboutd are still considered top secret, the international community will most likely never know what exactly happened.
