The term for all subterranean Friendly Alien Technology.

Friendly Aliens has made large steps in making technology to explore and colonise underground areas.

When Planetfall City was first designed Friendly Aliens immediately understood they would need to build into the ground aswell as build on top of it to make the ideal capital city. When it was constructed the technology of today was in its infancy and the underground network has been constantly updated in all the Super Cities to keep it up to date.

Friendly Aliens has developed a huge burrowing device called the Gerkan Drill it is huge and contains a massive furnace inside which melts all the material which has been drilled and compresses it. The molten material is lined on the side of the hole drilled to create a hard surface, preventing the tunnel from collapsing. The drill is computer controlled so it can be operated from a safe distance and the drill doesn't have to waste space to house a pilot (who probably wouldn't be able to resist the heat). Finally with the effective recycling of the spoil, alot less has be removed manually and placed somewhere else. A smaller version called the Mini-Gerkan is used to create corridors, venting and service networks.

After the initial tunnels and spaces have been dug, remote controlled vehicles called Cherubs are released inside the spaces and survey the area for points of weakness and effectively plans with the aid of a specially designed AI where main pillars and other supports should be placed and immediately calls for their construction to begin.

The construction of the main supports and pillars are the responsibility of the Kilic Construction Drones MK.1. They are tiny drones which carry Micro Blocks which are placed one on top of the other, then the connected surfaces melt and fuse together. Once the Micro Blocks have all been used the drone returns to the surface to collect more.

Finally a Kilic Construction Drone MK.2 comes with it's attached tanks and sprays every single surface with a liquid crystal solution called Lumbara this hardens with contact and strengthens the wall and gives it a magnificent shine.

All this creates the safe skeletal structure of the underground network and from this Friendly Aliens construction crews can lay all the service systems needed like power etc etc.

Friendly Aliens hopes this technology can be expanded and used in space to create underground bases on moons and asteroids.
