I find it incredible that one day some 10,000 years ago groups of people came up with the idea that it's better to "write" rather than rely on oral tradition. I find the alphabet, and later writing--methods that transform possibly short-lived spoken ideas into a to a more permanent and referenced form--be two of the most fundamental creations of humanity that created the society we live in today: where 180,000kg machines fly though the air, their weight precariously held by their wings...Sublimis 05:12, 15 July 2006 (GMT)
