The Colossus

We vanquished the Shivans in the Great War, but the hard questions remained. How would we confront the threat of future invasion? The Shivans might return at any time, any place, without warning. How would we fight the next threat to the very existence of our species? In 2345, on the tenth anniversary of the Shivan attack on Ross 128, the Grand Duke Solomon Klonor addressed the newly formed Klonor General Assembly. The Duke inaugurated an ambitious and unprecedented joint endeavor. The GDJ Colossus.

Solomon Klonor: Together we have built a civilization on the ruins of the Great War, and now we stand on the threshold of a new era of prosperity and harmony. Already we have begun to reclaim the wasteland that was formerly Deneb, healing old wounds and fading scars. The Corps have expanded to almost twice their pre-War size and are patrolling our territory with ever increasing thoroughness. The Regulus system has been successfully re-colonized from the other Colony systems and has once more become a beacon of economic stability. Now, with Project Colossus, the Klonor people celebrate our shared covenant of peaceful coexistence and mutual defense with our Colony allies.

The Colossus is the most powerful space faring warship ever constructed. Spanning six kilometers from bow to stern the Colossus has taken over twenty years to complete. Twelve Lucifer class Destroyers can fit within its massive hull.

Its state of the art weaponry includes:

• Forty-Five Advanced Laser Turrets: The primary offensive weaponry for dealing with smaller classes of combat ships, the numerous Laser Turrets allow for the engagement of several dozen Cruisers or Corvettes simultaneously.

• Fifteen Flak Guns: The superior Anti-Fighter/Missile technology, the Flak Cannons are superbly capable of destroying or disabling incoming assaults from the miniscule ships to small or quick to be targeted by the Lasers or Beams.

• Twelve Missile Batteries: The superior Fighter assault technology, the Missile Batteries enable the Colossus to strike out at Fighters and Bombers not actively engaged with or attacking the Colossus.

• Twelve Heavy Beam Cannons: The primary weapon system for the Colossus, the Beam Cannons are designed to engage and destroy targets of equal or superior size and firepower to the Colossus; easily swatting aside targets of inferior prowess as well.

The Colossus wields more firepower than five Orion class Destroyers combined, the various weapons systems complementing one another to achieve a combat capability superior to identically armed but seperate combat craft. In addition, sixty fighter and bomber wings are housed in its vast hanger, and its crew numbers over thirty thousand.

Among its contractors are industry giants Triton Dynamics, Subach-Innes, and the Akheton Corporation. Recently docked for a full refit, this ship now also sports a miniaturized Harbinger Cannon, as well as the latest Mass Effect Analysers (Massometer) and Ergometric Detection Units (Ergometer). Boosted with a Jimathon Ministar III engine, it is truly an amazing ship. The Alliance now wages war on multiple fronts; in Deneb, Epsilon Pegasi, and the mysterious nebula beyond Gamma Draconis. Once deployed the Colossus will end these conflicts swiftly and decisively. If ever the Shivans return to threaten our worlds we will be ready to face the challenge, securing peace for today and for generations to come.
