A Brief History of The Commonwealth of Greater Eire

The Commonwealth of Greater Eire, as it is called in Earth II, is a spin-off on the British Empire. The difference is that this time, it's the Irish Empire. The basic history is that around the time of Karl Marx the nation of Ireland was taken in a communist coup. The Emerald Isle became a bastion of communism and leftism in Europe. Millions of Irish fled the country (Earth II's potato famine) and the new regime, settling mostly in the Americas. A large number of Irish emigrated to Brazil, finding acceptance among the predominantly Roman Catholic population. They were a sizable minority and politically powerful. When communism reared its head in Brazil as well, the Irish immigrants would not leave their homes again. The civil war lasted for three years. It ended with the communist faction pushed above the northern border. The new nation was called Hibernian Brazil. The northern half of the former Brazil was eventually annexed by Colodia. The new country annexed the nearby nations of Peru and Bolivia. There were originally ambitions of an African empire that were abandoned to focus on expansion in South America. Later, seeing that Ireland had weakened under the communist government, Hibernian South America went to war to annex Ireland. The operation was successful and Ireland was partitioned between Layarteb and Hibernian South America. Layarteb held Ireland is generally referred to as Lesser Ireland, denoting its southern position on the Isle. The Commonwealth has recently annexed Chile and Northwest Brazil, acting on the fall of Colodia and Yoboland.

Territories

The Commonwealth of Greater Eire is split into Five Major Regions, four of which are named after the Irish kingdoms of antiquity. The Fifth called Archipelep contains the Island possessions of the Commonwealth.

Ulster

Ulster comprises the counties of Ireland under Commonwealth control. The Emerald Isle was captured in a joint invasion by The Commonwealth and The Empire of Layarteb. The people of Ireland were released from decades under communist rule by the glorious capitalist forces of the respective world superpowers. A relatively simple operation that changed the lives of Eire's citizenry. Cork is now the capital of the Empire. It has been expanded upon but the central city has remained essentially the same. It is one of the most important port cities in the North Atlantic and has exploded economically in recent years with the abolition of communism. A map of Ulster can be found here: [[1]]

Connaught

Connaught is made up of the former states of Peru and Northwest Brazil. It is a large area of land that shares borders with Layarteb, Malatose, and Gintonpar. In the west lies the Pacific Ocean, the Commonwealth has focused on expanding maritime trade by building ports and naval bases. Connaught contains large sections of the Amazon rainforest. The commonwealth has funded several expeditions into the mighty forest in an effort to map it out.

Leinster

Leinster is the original territory of Southern Brazil. It is a massive piece of land that contains such famous cities as Rio De Janeiro, Brasilia, and Sao Paulo. Rio De Janeiro is a popular tourist attraction, its white beaches the envy of resort cities the world over. Brasilia acted as the capital of the Commonwealth before it was moved to Cork. It was in Leinster that most of the Civil War was fought and the destiny of the nation decided. It acts as an important trade center with ports on the Atlantic Ocean.

Munster

Combining the ex-nations of Bolivia and Chile, Munster stretches half the length of the continent. It is a thin region, but extremely important in maritime trade. Chile was the most recently annexed territory in the Commonwealth and its people are still being fully incorporated into the culture of the Commonwealth.

Archipelep

Composing of the island territories of Clipperton Island, Comoros, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef and, Palmyra Atoll. These islands, though scattered across the globe, form the fifth region. They provide strategic military and economic ports across the world.
