Little is known of the The Dreamed Realm (originally called the Dreamed Realm Beyond), an almost inaccessible region which exists beyond the ordinary physical plane. It consists of only two nations, Alasdair I Frosticus and The Archregimancy, both of which are rumoured to be continuously dreamed into existence by their respective communities of monks. Whether the existence of the Realm itself is dependent on these dreaming monks, or whether the Realm would continue to exist even if its constituent nations were to cease their own existence, is a matter of considerable dispute among the small number of ordinary reality oneirologists. It does seem that the two nations of the Dreamed Realm control the nature of their own reality, and that while stability is preferred, it is not impossible for the nations to completely change the appearance and nature of their cities, climate, topography or even citizens should it be considered necessary.

The original Dreamed Realm was founded by the namesake Basileus of the Holy Empire of Alasdair I Frosticus as a means of removing his people from the corrupting influence of physical reality. At this early stage, travel between the Dreamed Realm and ordinary reality was relatively straightforward, only requiring agreement between the traveller and the Holy Empire's authorities. It was under these circumstances that several international sports teams were able to enter the Realm for the second edition of the enduring NationStates World Cup, hosted by Alasdair I Frosticus.

Following the decision of Alasdair I Frosticus to remove itself from contact with ordinary reality, however, travel to the Dreamed Realm ceased entirely.

More recently, there have been signs of renewed contact between the Dreamed Realm and the more mundane reality of ordinary nations. Evidence of this contact comes from the entry of the Archregimancy into the qualifiers for the 24th World Cup.

However, travel to the Dreamed Realm is no longer as straightforward as it once was. It now requires the construction of a special portal by an Archregimancy monk, and direct travel through this portal is only possible to the Archregimancy itself - no direct access to Alasdair I Frosticus is possible at all.

The question of whether direct travel between the nations of the Dreamed Realm - whether it is possible to simply walk from the Archregimancy to Alasdair I Frosticus - is another of the great unanswered mysteries of this region. Some say that such direct travel is not only possible, but common. Others, citing the ancient Codex Frosticus (see the entry for the Archregimancy) state that direct travel is not only impossible, but that crossing from one nation to another can only occur through the use of portals similar to those used to cross from physical reality to the Dreamed Realm.

In truth, so little is known about the region's current state that any such debates are based on the purest speculation, and the secrets of the Dreamed Realm may never be fully understood.
