The Mapmaker, Lord of South Thasland, is the indirect ruler of South Thasland. Though the official position of "Lord" is, under the new Thas Constitution, primarily ceremonial as head of state, the Mapmaker finds ways to influence the public through their love for him. In reality, the Mapmaker is in charge of most of the government
History
Not much is known about the Mapmaker's early years. Before the unification of South Thasland, there were very few records of any events. It is likely that the Mapmaker had no formal education and spent his youth in the rice paddies or working on a fishing boat. As the Mapmaker does not like to talk about the past, it is not even known what region he was bprn in. His friend, Woppet, claims to have met the Mapmaker in the Great Thas War, when the Thas tribes unified themselves in an alliance to defend against the pirates of the Thas Coast. According to Woppet, the Mapmaker served as the equivalent of a lieutenant, and suffered a bullet wound in his left thigh. He did not mention any battles that the mapmaker served in. After the end of the war, the Mapmaker traveled the Thas Basin, making friends with the other tribes. He usually would show up unannounced, offer to work for a room and board, and help wherever he could. He became a respected figure to the people, but soem viewed him as a threat. The tribe chiefs noticed how his populariry was growing, and some beganto plot against him. Assassination attempt failed, and the Mapmaker, who had been traveling with Woppet, fled. Protected by peasants, he tried to travel to a safe cave in the northern hills when the party was ambushed by gunmen. The peasants, who traveled with their weapons, returned fire. The ambush resulted in 3 ambushers dead at the coast of a peasant. In the resulting War of Thas Unification, the tribes rallied to the Mapmaker, who beat back the tribal chiefs. He created a unified state, The Emirate of South Thasland.
