Theoldcharl (full name: The Free Lands of Theoldcharl), is a prospering nation found deep within the cold forest of the Charl National Forest District within the region of Hethrum. Theoldcharl is a Social Democratic council based government that invests the power of the government within the representative council of the citizens of Theoldcharl. Charltons, citizens which live in Theoldcharl, live relatively free lives that are not intruded upon by the government. Personal freedoms and political freedoms are so highly reguarded within the nation that there is almost no complaints against government interventions ever. Economically, Theoldcharl functions relatively above average compared to the norm. Business is majority state owned, and benefits are spread greatly amongst the Charltons.

History

The Creation of the State

The Actual creation date of Theoldcharl is shrouded in mystery. The state itself was founded sometime in the year 1804. The original functioning state was a variety of different functioning dominions that formed together to create one solitary state. The powerbroker within this deal to pull the seperate states into one nation was William Derri. Derri along with two other prominant faction leaders, Thomas Braxton and Jaime Tyrion, pulled their large forces together at the center of Theoldcharl regional area and set up the city of Highcharl. At this central location, the three only governed their original holdings and the city itself. It would take nearly ten years for the central government known as Theoldcharl to begin to branch out.

The Bravos Conquest

In the summer months of 1813 the central government of Theoldcharl issued an official decree to begin settlement within the areas of Bravos. The Bravos region refused to accept the repeals of their customs and culture by assimalating into Theoldcharl. By winter, a heavy snow set in, in the forests of Theoldcharl and much of the Bravos peoples suffered heavy casualties. Theoldcharl central government noticing the unseasonably deep reach for snow within the Bravos region, quickly attacked the illprepared and apathetic Bravos military. The Bravos military suffered great defeats on the battlefield, but Theoldcharl's military faired little better. The suffering winter killed many soldiers before they ever fought. The campaign to take Bravos ended in devestation for both sides. The Bravos lost nearly three-fourths of its fighting units. Theoldcharl lost nearly half. Theoldcharl however, was able to take the Bravos region and integrate it into the central government.

The Bravos Rebellion of 1819

The rebellion by Bravosi rebel Issy Branguard was the only rebellion to occur within the Bravos region after the Bravos Conquest. The Bravos rebellion was a conplete failure in all aspects. The Bravos rebels were made up of elderly Bravos militants that had little support from the public. The militants were greatly crushed at the Battle of Herrings Lake where nearly 2,000 were killed on the rebels side. After the battle, the rebellion was crushed, and Issy Branguard was hung at townsquare in the newly developed city of Bravoston.

Death of Thomas Braxton and rise of Bran Stilton

The controversial death of Thomas Braxton in 1824 left the Braxton dynasty with no living heirs. So forth, the lands acquired by the Braxton family were warded to Bran Stilton of the Stilton manufacturing family. Bran Stilton was an extremist businessman that prospered his family and self through timber manufacturing. Bran Stilton not only inherited the lands of Braxton but also his position as right hand to Derri. Stilton was not as trusted an ally as Braxton was to Derri. Stilton with his newly acquired lands was now the majority land holder within the central government of Theoldcharl. This also made him the second most important man in Theoldcharl.

The death of a most admired individual, more money for a rich man, and Kingdom of the Rose

If Bran Stilton was a rich man in 1824 he was by far the richest man in the nation by 1835. Another mysterious death of a founding father marked yet another achievement for Stilton. Just a year before in 1834, the healthy Jaime Tyrion died mysteriously, leaving his company and lands to his son Robb Tyrion. Robb Tyrion ran the business into the ground in less than a year and sold it to Bran Stilton for a mediocre sum. This allowed Stilton to monopolize on the timber and coal industries. The coal industry had just began to boom as the industrial age was beggining to affect the area. The Stilton Manufacturing Industry was by far the largest in the nation with little to no opposition. At the site of the largest Stilton plant, the Industrial city of Stilton propped up. The city manufactured much of the goods for the nation and furthered the power of Stilton and his family. In 1837, in order to increase his revenues, Stilton was able to convince Derri to attack the relatively peaceful Kingdom of the Rose. The Kingdom was to the north of the central city of Highcharl and was a large vast area full of mountains and trees. The area would be a perfect place for Stilton to increase his revenues. Possibilities for coal and lumber where endless.

Stilton's Folly

Derri was hesitant to commit Theoldcharl forces towards a war against the Kingdom of the Rose, but after much convincing by Stilton, Derri ordered 20,000 soldiers to take the Kingdom of the Rose. Stilton in order to protect his investment sent an extra 500 of his own personal saleswords to aid in any manner. Stilton himself lead the armies so to survey his future prize. His prize was not so easily plucked. The Kingdom of the Rose trained its forces in guerilla warfare, a concept that Theoldcharl military was not used to. As winter set in, Theoldcharl military force in the Kingdom of the Rose sank to only 4,000. No open battles occured in the first year. The second, third and fourth years faired no better, but Derri eventually supplied 100,000 soldiers to sack the Kingdoms main city to end the war. The Kingdom of the Rose was fully integrated in 1850, with no lands or resources given to Stilton. The war was dubbed Stilton's Folly due to Stilton's lead in the war until Derri took over in the end.

The Civil War Years 1851-1868

Following Stilton's Folly, Stilton attempted to pull his lands from the central government but was unable to as Derri persuaded Stilton's family not to abide by him. At the monument death of Derri in 1851, Stilton was able to change his families outlook and persuaded them to secede from the now weakened central government of Theoldcharl

Stilton Grows 1851-1856

The central government was not able to predict the impact that Derri's death would have had on Theoldcharl. It certainly crushed the governments functionality. Derri's son Jacob Derri took over for his father with only an ally in Robb Tyrion who was proving just as horrible a statesman as he was a businessman. The newly acquired lands of the Kingdom of the Rose were now fully integrated into the central government, but had little to offer. Likewise, Bravos to offered nothing. The industrial might of Stilton was all that could have saved the government from total disaster, but he too had left and was making invasion plans to sieze the entire government for himself. On April 14, 1851, Stilton led a personal attack on the wilderness town of Applecreek, destroying the town and capturing all the citzens. Two weeks later he raided another town to the north. Following these attacks Jacob Derri ordered the defense against these raids.

Battle of Applecreek

One month following the raid on Applecreek, the weak forces of the York Terrington Corp (5,600) met the forces of Stilton (7,675) at Applecreek. The battle began at sunrise when York Terrington ordered a charge into the Stilton armies artillary. Stilton ordered a flank that caught Terrington off guard killing him in the first hours of the battle. The battle ended that night with the York Terrington Corp surrendering and being taken prisoner. The Stilton forces only suffered 100 casualties.

Stilton's Grand Campaign 1852-1856

After Applecreek, Stilton met little opposition on the battlefield. In January of 1852 he started his Grand Campaign which lasted until December of 1856. For four years Stilton met no major battle with defeat. The entire campaign met with a casualty rate of only 16% compared to Theoldcharl's 67%. The following years would mark a great advance for Theoldcharl.

A slight turn-around 1857-1863

Stilton's Grand Campaign had nearly concluded in the end of Theoldcharl. 1857 brought some light to the whimpering nation. Bravos had finally decided to provide military support to its nation. The great Bravos general Eryc Byrde would lead his people into war to fight off the invaders.

Battle at Trents

The Battle at Trents marked the bloodiest battle of Theoldcharl history. The Trents was a series of hills and valleys outside of the city of Highcharl. The Grand Campaign of Stilton came to an end at this battle. On March 20, 1857, the Bravos general Eryc Byrde met Stilton at the Trents. Byrde commanded nearly 120,000 soldiers, Stilton, 300,000 & inside the walls at the fortress of Trent was Robb Tyrion Commanding nearly 125,000. The first week of battle had little result. The second week saw a horrid charge by the Stilton forces, dashing nearly 50,000 men. The final day of the battle, exactly three weeks from the start date marked a miraculous flank by the defending forces inside the fort. Tyrion led his men of full strength into the rear of a 200,000 strong Stilton force. Stilton quickly retreated. Stilton suffered 210,000 casualties, more than he had sufferedthan in any battle combined. Byrde suffered 90,000 and Tyrion only 10,000.

Battle at Zenith Peak 1862

Zenith Peak marked the last battle of great magnitude on both sides for the rest of the war. Byrde met Stilton's commander Gregor Markson at Zenith Peak in upper Bravos. Markson lost 90% of his 30,000 soldiers due to a rock slide. Byrde lost only about 5% of his 40,000.

Closing of the war 1863-1868

The finals years of the war were a relative peaceful time as neither side had the forces to fight. Only on one occasion did a large disruption occur. Again at Applecreek a small scuffle amounted with 3,000 casualties on both sides. The original boundaries of territories were regained by everyone with a slight exception at Applecreek. Both sides claimed the area. The death of Stilton finally marked the end of the war in 1868.

Treaty of Applecreek

On June 3, 1868 the Treaty of Applecreek was signed between the two forces. The treaty entitled:
1. The territories of the Stilton family would be returned to the central government of Theoldcharl.
2. Reperations would be performed by the central government of Theoldcharl, but also aided by the Stilton family.
3. The Stilton family remove all personal military forces.
4. The national military is the only recongnized military.
5. The Stilton family would recieve access to the Kingdom of the Rose region.
6. The Stilton family will not get a representative within the ourt of Theoldcharl.
7. The Stilton family must recognise the sole authority over the nation of Theoldcharl through the divine granted to the Derri Family.

Road to the Council

After the signing of the Treaty of Applecreek, the economic growth of various businesses amongst the families of the ruling classes was outstanding. The Derri, Tyrion, and Stilton family companies grew at amazing rates. The working class Charltons began to demand fair compensation for their work. The Tyrion family was the only family at this time paying it's workers anything close to a fair wage. Which in turn increased their production capacity above the rest of the ruling families. The Derri dynasty much like the Braxton line, met its ultimate end in 1875 as its main bloodline ran out with the death of the last Derri. The close Derry line was still prominant but not close enough to inherite the ruling sanctions of the government. For the next two years the Tyrion and Stilton families fought for the right to rule Theoldcharl. On January 2nd, 1878, an uprising by the lower class workers in the city of Stilton caused various other uprisings in other cities. The newly developed city of Tilly in The Kingdom of the Rose region to the north of Highcharl met total destruction as workers went to the street in violant protest. The families of the ruling class had toally exploited the Charltons makings large amounts of assets in the process. Stilton, five days later, was burnt half down. Highcharl was not an industrial hub, but also met with protesters. The only major city to not have large riots was Tyrion.

A council is made

On March 18th, 1878, the workers formed together and marched on the city of Highcharl. Since there was no ruling government at this time, the workers seized the government. In its place they established a government based on increasing the quality of life within Theoldcharl for the lower classes, and created a council that would act as the government. The council in this beggining form was represented by 6 elected members and one elected chairman to speak as the council. Two days later the Tyrions and the Stiltons accepted the proposal.

The Council

Council of 1880

The council in its first was a relative mess that consisted of 6 uneducated working class citizens. In 1880 the council was expanded to include members of differant classes and the ration of working class Charltons compared to middle and upper class went to 4:2. In this era three universities were established to increase the education of the working class. The University of Derri was created in Derri, Theoldcharl College in Highcharl, and the Industrial Tech school in Stilton all sprouted up. The Colleges were the first of its kinda in the nation. The Council of 1880 also proposed labor laws in the nation. The government passed a law that required all businesses to grant all workers a minimum wage of 3.5 charls and hour. A great increase from the original 1 charl and hour that was given before hand. Women were granted the ability to work any job if she wished, and a minimum age requirement of 14 was instituted so children would no longer be working. Children under the age of 14 would be required to attend public schools. The criteria of the schools varied. The cities of Stilton and the city of Rose in the Kigdom of the Rose region both taught an industrial based lecture, whereas in Highcharl and Bravoston the program was developed in history, art, science, and literature. This would lead to a more governmental driven mind for those of the schools of Highcharl and Bravoston. The members of any class in these areas where highly more likely to attend University compared to those in Tilly and Stilton.

Council of 1892

There was relatively little change by the councils between the years of 1880-1892. Universities were popping up everywhere including two new Univerities in Highcharl, the University of Highcharl and Braxton College. Population was increasing as the bonuses of the Industrial revoltuion coupled with the social benefits granted by the government mixed. More students were enrolling in Universities which further increased the quality of life within Theoldcharl. The Council of 1892 issued a proclamation in order to spread its new wealth to outlying areas. The push to integrate the region of Kees became a primary goal. In April of 1892 the Council issued a military expedition into the area. Kees was not a military powerhouse, and folded quickly under the advanced armies of Theoldcharl. Kees was then incorporated into the central government.

Depression of 1900-01

A plague of beetles and a massive migration into the newly acquired territory of Kees, which left Stilton and Tilly greatly underpopulated, contributed to a economic depression in 1900. The private companies within the cities of Stilton and Tilly ran into the ground, causing the government to purchase them. This in turn led the government to purchase businesses throughout the nation. The only city not effected by the government buyout was Tyrion. Tyrion did not suffer as much as other cities of industry. The government also instituted programs of state sponsored benefits including medical care, pensions, University funds, and increased urban development to grant jobs and better infrastructure to cities. The Council of 1900 also instituted a system of government on a small scale city level to maintain government businesses.

Council of 1906

By 1906, the council had expanded to 25 members represented by population amongst various sectors of the nation. Highcharl sector contributed 7 members, Stilton- 5, Tilly- 5, Tyrion- 4, Bravoston- 3, and Applecreek - 1. This was the first ever change in council numbers and the first ever Chairman took form. Earlier there were "Chairmans" but they had little power. THe first Chairman to be elected and hold power and so forth considered the first ever Chairman of Theoldcharl was Edric Penson. Penson was reelected as Chairman in the Council of 1908, Council of 1910, Council of 1912, Council of 1914, Council of 1916, and the Council of 1918. He continually served in the Council until the Council of 1924 where he was defeated in election by future Chairman Mary Tyrion. Both of which were constituents of the Tyrion district.

Council of 1924 and 1926

The Council of 1924 marked the first ever Female Charlton to ever be elected into the Council. Mary Tyrion, of the Tyrion family, beat incumbant councilman Edric Penson. Many say this was due to Pensons advancing age. Mary Tyrion also became the first Tyrion to be elected into the Council. During the Council of 1926 Mary Tyrion was elected the first female Chairman over future Chairman Ike Edgar of Bravoston.

Applecreek Conflict

The Chairman elections of the Council of 1928 caused a great deal of controversy in the Applecreek district. The council numbers hadnt changes in the las 22 years and Applecreek frontrunner, Elton "Bridemaker" Clegans was favorite to win the Chairman position. Ike Edgar of Bravoston won the election by an alarming majority in the votes. This brought an inquisition into the election procedure. The inquisition was headed by fellow Bravoston chairmember Alister Blink. Which ended the investigation declaring Edgar as victor. The Applecreek citizens demanded justice on the matter and marched on the city of Highcharl where the council sat. During the protest Theoldcharl guard was issued to keep order. A riot ensued and 200 protestors and 43 guards were killed. Elton Clegans asked his Applecreek brotherin to not march on the city again. Instead Clegans opened up his own investigation where he founf that Edgar had fixed the election. Clegans brought the investigation to the council and they found Edgar and Blink guilty of fixing the election. In honour of his triumph the citizens of Applecreek renamed the city to Eltonbride. Elton Clegans was give the seat of Chairman for the Council of 1928 and continued to hold the seat until the Council of 1936 when he retired from politics.

The Council of 1940 also increased the lands of Theoldcharl by adventuring into its last settlement of Goldright. Within Goldright large deposits of gold, silver, and many other minerals where found. The government immediately set up extraction points within the area and drained the minerals out of the area.

Council of 1968

Another increase in council members occured in 1968 as population counts were rising fast. The new number was set at 100 council members, and the creation of Vice-Chair was created.

Mineral War

In 1973, the nation of peoples known as the anti-league attacked the northern most reaches of the Tilly district. Their goal was to destroy the factories within the Tilly district and then move southwest into the Stilton district and eventul work there way back into Tilly and further eastward into Goldright. The inital surprise attack was successful as there was no intelligence on the matter. However, after a week, Theoldcharl council sent 20,000 soldiers to the area to stop the invasion. The anti-league was quickly disrupted and the assualt was put to an end.

Council of 1980

With relative peace over the last 100 years the Council of 1980 proposed a bill that cut military spending by almost 90%. Most opposition towards Theoldcharl government was stamped out and non-existant. Money that was normally pumped into defense was put towards environmentalism, education, healthcare, and cultural advances. Theoldcharl reduced much of its timber production and started growing hemp to make products normally made with trees. Re-forestation projects were instituted in Tilly, Kees, and Goldright. Strip mining was reduced heavily in Goldright and Tilly. Factories were newly outfitted with less pollutant systems, and coal power plants were switched to solar. The Hydro-power dams remained as the removal would flood carious residential areas. The one nuclear power plant in the northern reaches of Tilly also remained as it powered much of Theoldcharl.

Healthcare was increased to provide all Charltons with free advanced Healthcare, including surgery. All college education with the acception of religous colleges were granted free tuition. The University of Derri-Medical was the first school to provide free doctorial programs for would-be doctors. Previously only under-grad programs were free of charge. The Educational College of Tilly also offered advanced degrees with no tuition charges along with The Liberal Arts University of Applecreek in Eltonbride. The new funding also gave grants to would be artists and cultural surveyors to increase the cultural output of Theoldcharl. Previously Theoldcharl was an industrial based society with little cultural achievements. The money was put towards giant works of art throughout Theoldcharl, including "The Founder" a statue of William Derri in Highcharl.

Modern Years

In 1982, the council term length from 2 years to 4 years. Likewise, the Chairman and Vice-Chair positions were also extended to 4 years. The first Chairman to be elected within this new addition was Edgar McEdgar(Highcharl-Derri).

Council of 1990

The Council of 1990 removed all spending towards the military with the acception towards the Secret Intelligence Agency of Theoldcharl. The I.A.T. was established two years earlier to eventually take over as the only real defense of Theoldcharl. The budget was transferred towards the transit system of Theoldcharl which pushed money into mass transit, and cleaner fuel cars. In 1993, Theoldcharl released a car that ran on Hemp, which became the number one grown crop in Theoldcharl in 1989. The emissions released by the vehicle were collected by the car and recycled and reused as fuel in the car.

Council of 2002

The Council of 2002 found the re-election of Edgar McEdgar after a a four year stint by Charles Branden (Bravoston). McEdgar joined within the Priory of Sion regional grouping at the end of his political career and left mess of politics to the next Chairman Elston Derry (Highcharl-Derri) and the Council of 2006.

Current Council

The Council of 2006 has just been elected and has not served but half a year. Elston Derry heads the council as Chairman and his Vice-Chair is Ally Fallin (Kees). The number of council members is still at 100.

Regional History

Priory of Sion

Theoldcharl's first stint in regional politics occured in the Priory of Sion. The Priory of Sion was one of the splinter regions of the Anumist Alliance. Theoldcharl quickly gained support and started the Social-Democratic party within the region. The party perged with the Democratic party of the Priory led by interrim President Delta 5. The party became the majority party over the Republican Party. As elections approached, the Social-Democratic Party of the Priory of Sion won thte election for President and all Senate seats. Theoldcharl won a Senate seat and was then elected within the Senate as Chairman of the Senate. Following the election the government was thrown out by the regional founder and most found Exile in Priory Hall.

Priory Hall

The Priory Hall was a temporary exile zone for the nations thrown out by the founder of The Priory of Sion. The exiled nation regiona lasted for a short time. Theoldcharl and Delta 5 both left the region to join Hethrum. Other returned to the Priory of Sion.

Hethrum

Following exile Theoldcharl joined the region of Hethrum. Theoldcharl quickly became an active member in Hethrum politics and ran in the first commander election where Theoldcharl lost to Englion 7-5 votes. Theoldcharl is a member of the committee that oversees civil rights, and is the first general within the Hethrum military. Theoldcharl is currently entered into the Chairman election with running mate Daverana. Theoldcharl will be running against incumbant, Wystan and his runningmate, Northereurope.

Geography

</div>

Highcharl-Derri

The Highcharl-Derri district boasts the least productive landscape compared to the rest of the district. The area with the exception of the far south of the district was primarely chosen for defensive reasons. Highcharl itself is built on Charl Hill where defenses are at optimum. Between the cities of Highcharl and Derri is the area known as the Trents. The Trents is a long rolling expansion of hills and valleys. The area is relatively uninhabited due to its relative lack of arridable land. Derri however sports some arridable land which made it an initial hot-spot for agriculture. Derri, south-west of Highcharl was the second city to sprout in Theoldcharl nation. The far south of the district has some of the most arridable land in the nation, but it is so small that it can hardly produce large sets of staple crops.

Tyrion

The Tyrion District was the first area within Theoldcharl to be an agricultural power. The west border of Tyrion has the most productive lands in all of Theoldcharl. The north and east, much like the regions of Kees and Goldright, is covered entirely with mountains and trees. This area however is full of mineral which later turned the area into a industrial hub in the later 19th century. The south is similar to that of the east. A small beach outlines the southern area along side the Tyrion River.

Stilton

The Stilton District is possibly the most uninhabital region in all of Theoldcharl, but somehow experienced a population boom in the early to mid 19th century. The norther part of the District is covered entirely with trees and coal harboring mountains. The fridgid temperatures and rocky land have kept most from that area. The city of Stilton brought about an idustrial boom in the region, bringing many looking for a job there. The direct area around the city of Stilton can be explained as a once beautiful wilderness hacked away into a industrial wasteland. With current preservations though the area is regrowing. This particular area was the largest timber producing area in all of Theoldcharl. It still is one of the top producers, but Hemp has driven the need of timber down in recent years. The souern sector, inherited from the Braxtons also aids the industrial effort. The Braxton lands were full of metals, which aided the Stilton civil war effort.

Applecreek

One thing is certain of Applecreek. It could have been the number one producer of timber, but instead chose to keep its trees. Applecreek is highly underdeveloped, but also highly populated. It's large old growth forests attracted alot of Charltons in the 50's and 60's making it the fourth largest district in Theoldcharl.

Bravos

The Bravos district is the only flat district in Theoldcharl. However, one exception exists. The small Zenith mountain range highlighted by the largest mountain in Theoldcharl, Zenith Peak. The range runs south-west, and directly on the west side there is a small desert, the Zenith Desert. However, north and south of the range are some of the most fertile lands in Theoldcharl. The Bravos district is the number one producer of Hemp in the region and the number one producer of all crops. The southern area of the district produces a mediteranean climate that allows the Bravos district to produce wine.

Rose, Goldright and Kees

The Rose and Goldright district were both incorporated into Theoldcharl for two reasons. One was timber and the other was minerals. Goldright is entirely a rocky region producing vasts amounts of minerals, metals, and especially gold. Rose has some agricultural gain. The Rose district is the only place in Theoldcharl where Winter Roses, the national flower, are grown. Northern Rose and Goldright are the coldest areas in Theoldcharl.

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">taracoxrosesns8.jpg

</div>

The coldest temperature recording ever was -45 degrees Fahrenheit. Kees is slightly rocky and flat. Its east is a mix of both hills and plains. Wheat is easily grown in this area along with other grains. The southern tip of Kees gets the most rain over any district and so forth can produce large amounts of rice in its swampy lands. Kees is also the number one producer of sugar cane. The northern sector is much the same as Goldright. Kees is the number two producer of Gold and SIlver being Goldright, and the number four producer of coal. Like Applecreek, though, the old growth forests still exist.

During the 1960's there much of the industry in Rose was removed. Councillor Tara Cox, later Chairman, pushed to rid much of the deforestation and mining out of the region. She replaced the industries with agricultural and tourism as stronger forms of an economy. Cox supported the regrowth of the Winter Rose and had it adopted as the national flower in 1969.
