Sir Thierry was born in Phociople, a distinct municipality in greater New Rome (nominally a distinct city but practically more of an outer suburb of the capital). His father, Louis del Moray, was already a successful entrepreneur at the time of Sir Thierry's birth. Through his father, Sir Thierry is descended from Luciano del Moray, an Italian conductor who immigrated to Pantocratoria in the early 18th Century to serve as the maestro of the Imperial Court Orchestra of Emperor [[Manuel V Comnenus|Manuel V]]. The rest of the del Moray family followed Luciano to Pantocratoria, and quickly became established in New Rome society circles. Sir Thierry's mother, Helen, was the daughter of the former [[Imperial Patriotic Party]] Mayor of Phociople, jean-Constantine Menocles.
