The Tolvanic military is tasked with defending the territory of Tolvan and protecting Tolvanic interests abroad. The Tolvanic military is relatively small in proportion to the population of the Commonwealth but it is among the best trained in the world and is well equipped. The military consists of the Tolvanic Army, Tolvanic Marine Corps, Tolvanic Navy, Tolvanic Air Force, Special Operations Forces Command, and Reserve Forces Command. The Tolvanic military is under civilian oversight through the Ministry of Defence.

Tolvanic Army

The Tolvanic Army is the Tolvanic military's largest branch. The Tolvanic Army is primarily expeditionary in nature as Tolvan's geography and location has rendered it relatively safe from invasion throughout its history.

The Tolvanic Army currently consists of fifteen corps level headquarters, forty-five divisions (nine armoured, nine mechanized infantry, three light mechanized infantry, three motorised infantry, twelve airmobile, three air cavalry, six light infantry), six armored cavalry regiments (three heavy, three medium), fifteen artillery brigades (nine armored, six airmobile), fifteen air defense brigades, twelve combat engineer brigades (nine mechanized, six light), fifteen attack aviation brigades (in addition to those assigned to the divisions), fifteen aviation lift brigades (in addition to those assigned to airmobile/air cavlary divisions), fifteen military police brigades (all motorized though six are airborne capable), and fifteen Theater Sustainment Groups (TSG).

Tolvanic Navy

The Tolvanic Navy is Tolvan's senior service. As Tolvan is a collection of far flung islands the existence of the Tolvanic Navy predates that of the Tolvanic Army by nearly 40 years. THe Tolvanic Navy is responsible for defending Tolvan's territorial waters, protection of Tolvan's Seagoing Lines of Communication (SLOC), defending Tolvanic interests at sea, and projecting power in support of National Policy Objectives.

The Tolvanic Navy is organized into six fleets, which are further subdivided into numerous squadrons or similar ships (i.e. Crusier Squadron One, Submarine Squadron Three, etc.) However, these formations are primarily administrative in nature, the standard unit of tactical organization is the Group. The Tolvanic Navy currently has 519 warships and 612 support ships on active duty.

Reserve Forces Command

The bulk of the Tolvanic military's combat power lies in the active duty Regular Forces. However, there are substantial amounts of forces held in reserve throughout the country. Currently all able bodied males are required to serve two years in a Reserve Force unit upon reaching his 18th birthday, the only exceptions are those individuals who wish to join the all-volunteer Regular Force. Reserve Forces units can not be deployed outside of Tolvanic Territory without a formal order issued by the Prime Minister and approved by at least a 75% margin in the Parliament. In addition the Provincial Governer of the province in which the unit is based must also approve.

Reserve Forces Command consists of the following branches: National Guard, Naval Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Air Defense Command, Coastal Defense Command, and the Individual Inactive Reserve.

Nuclear Forces

The bulk of Tolvan's nuclear deterrant is found in the tactical nuclear arsenals of the various branches. Each branch (except the Marine Corps) operates the NW-550 tactical nuclear warhead in some capacity. The NW-550 can be delivered via 203mm artillery round, ATACMS surface to surface missile, M670 gravity bomb, NATACMS ship launched surface to surface missile, Tomahawk-N cruise missile, and the AGM-100 Mace "bomber buster" heavy SAM.

In addition Tolvan operates an undisclosed number of NM-227 "Doomsday" ICBMs and NM-335 "Desolation" SLBMs.
