Update:

The Armed Republic of Turanskstan is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 290 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Education and Commerce are on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 49%. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.

The government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, all footpaths have tollbooths, reporters often lose their jobs over fact-checking errors, and artists are pillars of society. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Turanskstan's national animal is the Fossa, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
