The United Kingdom has also successfully been refounded. :)

Summary

The UK is an active region with a forum, a map (well... maybe. give it another year) and a friendly atmosphere.

Long-time delegate the One Eyed Man vanished just before the (temporarily successful) invasion; we hope to see him back soon.

Our forum achieved 500 posts after just one month of operation, and regularly receives praise for being "a really good forum". Discussions range from the best version of Linux to use, through Word Assosciation, to the best and worst films people have ever seen.

Beginnings

Summarised Timeline:

Approx January 2005: Paranoid Android becomes UN Delegate as a recognised long-term Native, as threat of invasion by multiple organisations looms, but never actually materialises.

Approx February 2005: Natives become tired with the usually quiet Paranoid Android's Delegacy, and elect The one eyed man as Delegate. The one eyed man immediately goes about setting up the First Government of the United Kingdom, under the name of The Party of The one eyed man.

Approx March 2005: The one eyed man invites applications for positions of Home Secretary, Foreign Secretary, and Minister for Defence within the Party of The one eyed man. The one eyed man indicates that the Party name will be changed at a later date, but it never does.

The First Government creates a template for Government in the United Kingdom that comprises of rival Political Parties that are elected every couple of months, with all UN Resolutions being put to common vote before the Delegate either ratifies or endorses them. Despite the system being founded on the principal of competition, no other Political Party existed in the United Kingdom whilst the Party of the One eyed man existed. Several Embassies are founded, and foreign relations are strengthened, most notably with England and Great Britain and Ireland, whose Army assisted during the invasion of 13-15 July 2005 (approx).

Approx June/July 2005: The one eyed man informs the Government on the Monday that he has been taken ill, and that he will be away for the week. Three weeks pass without the One eyed man returning, prompting the Natives of the United Kingdom, and notibly new immigrants such as The Eastland Islands, to become restless. The Eastland Islands proposes the creation of a rival Political Party in the United Kingdom, and tries to call an election, but his Party never materialises. During this time, relatively new Natives Holdawas and then Yakubu gain the Delegacy from the inactive one eyed man, possibly alerting Invader lookouts and Intelligence Agents as to the turmoil the Region was experiencing. The loss of Delegacy to Holdawas prompts Foreign Secretary Greater Dalaran, and later Betelgeuse XII, to resign their positions until the one eyed man is restored as Delegate. After declaring their return to office with The one eyed man's Delegate status restored, Greater Dalaran resigns for a second time in protest of Yakubu's succession as Delegate. This time, however, Betelgeuse XII opts to stay on in an informal supervisory role.

===11 July 2005:=== Betelgeuse XII implores the Natives of the United Kingdom to stick together with the following message on the Regional Message Board:

"In that case we should add the new forum URL to the World Factbook entry for the region. Hopefully there will be some way of recovering the old forum, but I have had no contact with our previous webmaster.

"Can I ask Postboxes to set up a poll for the newest UN resolution, with Yakubu casting his delegate votes in accordance with the region's wishes? I am aware that this has not been previously possible with the One Eyed Man's absence, so we should at least try to get this going again so we can make our region heard in the UN.

"In the meantime, I like to would encourage all nations of the United Kingdom to sign up to this new forum (if that's ok Postboxes), as I think this is important for the region. We would have to evaluate the situation if the original forum does come back up, but I would like to now thank Postboxes for setting up this forum for us.

"Finally, I truly think that it would be for the distinct detriment of the United Kingdom if the One Eyed Man to be deleted (and for the person behind him not to return), but if this were to happen then there will obviously be some major changes in the burgeoning political landscape of the region. I appreciate that the One Eyed Man is no longer the delegate of the region, and by extension the Party of the One Eyed Man can no longer be in Government, but for the good of the region I think the remaining members of the OEM Party Cabinet should carry on their basic duties until such time as responsibility can be 'handed over' to another Party. It would be a great shame if we were to undo the work we have done, for example with embassies and regional security, by letting all of the momentum dissapate in an anticlimax. I hope that we may have the blessing of the nations of this region in doing this, and in the spirit of cooperation that we can continue to work together to make the United Kingdom a better place to live."

Approx 12 July 2005: The one eyed man is finally deleted. The Party of the one eyed man folds with him. Greater Dalaran will never hold a Government position again, and is deleted on (approx) 12th August 2005. Lone Wolves United Intelligence Agents get wind of the previous Delegate's deletion, and the organisation begins planning an invasion.

Approx 13/14 July 2005: LWU lead Michigano moves to the United Kingdom, still reeling from The one eyed man's deletion. He immediately telegrams all UN Nations in the UK with the message:

I have kindly endorsed you.

Would you please consider endorsing me back.

Approx 14/15 July 2005: Michigano becomes UN Delegate. He immediately claims victory for LWU, and ejects Holdawas and Yakubu for having too many endorsements. Postboxes, the United Kingdom's oldest Native, leaves (albeit temporarily) for the Region 'The Axis of Absurdity'.

Approx 15/16 July 2005: The fleet of Great Britain and Ireland arrives, and telegrams oldest remaining Native Betelgeuse XII as to the prescribed course of action. Betelgeuse XII recommends allowing the fleet to endorse a lead of their choosing, and suggests HMS Vanguard. The leader of the fleet disagrees due to political reasons, and the fleet proceeds to endorse Betelgeuse XII instead.

Almost the entire fleet later finds themselves in the Rejected Realms and banned by the devilishly clever LWU Delegate.

Then, mere tens of minutes before the update, The Pacific Army (TPA), 10,000 Islands Treaty Organisation (TITO), and The Federal Commonwealth Society (FCS) arrive to endorse Betelgeuse XII. The Invaders find themselves powerless to eject the second wave of Defenders after they are stripped of their Delegate powers due to UN violations (Michigano attempted to transfer Delegacy to Siciliano). This is after LWU telegram Betelgeuse XII threatening him 'not to get ahead of yourself. We still have Delegate controls'.

After the update at approx. 0700 BST, all remaining Invaders are booted into the Rejected Realms. One particularly courageous invader threatens to involve moderators in a telegram to Betelgeuse XII for being banned from the region, but eventually decides to retreat and live to fight another day.

Approx 16/17 July 2005: The fleet of GB&I arrive back in the UK after being removed from the Regional Ban List. Several units of the Defender Fleet remain behind to exert their control on the region from behind the scenes, and help themselves to the region's entire stock of rum. The Invasion triggers a wave of activity, with the Regional Forum eventually averaging 500 posts a month. In this, we are indebted to the invaders.

13 August 2005: Betelgeuse XII returns from a 3 week holiday, proposes a Constitution for the United Kingdom, and posts a draft on the Regional Forum. The Constitution proposes the creation of a new Government, along with a Senate, and introduces security protocols aimed at preventing another invasion.

23 August 2005: The Regional History Project is begun in the United Kingdom by Betelgeuse XII Wink

9 September 2005: Project to refound the United Kingdom is begun.

0934, 10 November 2005: The United Kingdom is refounded 62 days after the project was begun.

Government

The current government of the United Kingdom is a lovely constitution which has been written by Betelgeuse XII. It comprises of a Prime Minister, a Regional Delegate, Ministers, and a Regional Assembly. It is currently being slowly imported into the new government of the United Kingdom.

United Kingdom Football Association

The UKFA was founded on the 28 August 2005 by Betelgeuse XII. It is currently running a test football league, comprising of 6 teams, using the scorinating programme NSFootieSim. It is hoped that similar leagues can be set up within friendly Regions, with a 'Champions League' style competition running alongside so that the best teams from all friendly regions can pit their wits against each other.
