Vladamir Koleshilikov (b. 1760, d.1817) was a Russian explorer who in 1803, after getting lost travelling in the Atlantic Ocean landed on the Castosas islands (now The Republic of Lambon). He never intended to stay but remained on the islands for 14 years, and died in 1817.

Background & History

Koleshilikov was born in 1760 in the area of "Санкт-Петербу́рг" (Saint Petersburg) in Russia. He became the most well known explorer in Russia by 1790. He was announced as a missing person in 1804 when he did not return from his newest journey. Infact he had landed on the Castosas islands (now The Republic of Lambon). It was a mystery to the Russian People, of where he had gone until 1868.

He never intended to stay but enjoyed the people and the culture he remained on the islands for 14 years. He had apparently considered going back to Russia many times in this period. He was very successful on the islands and has made a lasting effect which can be seen to this day (a statue of him is on view in Halzaas City and the caption reads: "Наша культура - здесь" which means simply, "Our culture - here". He spent most of his time in the city now known as Halzaas and he named it "город жизни" - which generally mean "City of Life". He taught the Native people of Castosas some of the modern Russian culture but died in 1817 leaving the Nation in cultural crisis.

Death

The certain cause of Koleshilikov's death is unknown but it is believed that he caught a life-threatening fever in the summer of 1817 and died a few months later.
