The WR-4 Sea Ranger was designed to fulfill the role of a multi-mission helicopter with Anti-Submarine Warfare and Search & Rescue capabilities, operating from almost any naval platform. The resulting aircraft was a success, and in a matter of two years (from 1997, when it entered service, to 1999) every possible Wingardian vessel had it on their helipads. Even though it has yet to see real action, the Sea Ranger has proved itself capable of SAR and inspecting operations in the hands of the Federal Coast Guard.
