Deputy Prime Minister not included

There has been much controversy around the Current Line of Succession since it does not include the Deputy Prime Minister, who is the chief deputy to Prime Minister Allawi and is a Senior Minister in the Cabinet.

According to MPs who oppose the Deputy PM's placement in the Line, since the post does not have a portfolio, the post can sometimes go to anyone, even if they are unqualified. It should be noted in early years the post was given to close firends to the PM who really didn't even have much experience in politics. This lead lawmakers to believe this could lead to an inexperience person being elevated to the Presidency who is not ready to take over.

No attempt has been made to add the Deputy PM into the list since 2000, when the bill was overwhelmingly defeated in the House.
