Whiscombe

Whiscombe is the largest city in Cachette de Lions, and the nation's capital, taking over from Jeansité-sur-Blanche in 1941 when it was bombed during World War II. Originally intended as a temporary capital for wartime, the city soon swelled in population to such an extent that it was decided the capital was to permanently move there. The new Parliament building was an old cathedral - renovated it became the official legislature for the country. A large population of those from ethnic minorities have ensured that Whiscombe is a multicultural city; indeed, it focuses a lot on culture with numerous galleries and museums adorning the city's skyline. However, unemployment is a problem in the city, with approximately one-fifth out of work, a serious problem for the government.
The city was founded in 1790 as part of Ruzelle, one of the eight colonies of the newly emerging Lyondeterre. It was fairly small initially, but its function as a major port became the source of work and population in the city, with the number of residents rising quickly in the 19th century. However, with the country in economic decline, the city's businesses are closing and most who do work live on little. Politically, the city is often split between the Social Democrats and the Liberals in more working-class areas, although the Conservatives do fairly well in the more affluent parts of the city.
