Workers Point Bobcats
Full name: Workers Point Bobcats Rugby Club
Location: Workers Point, PopularFreedom
Venue: Workers Stadium
League: PopularFreedom Rugby League
Last Championship: 2002 PRL Championship

Overview

The Workers Point Bobcats have been one of the weaker teams in the PopularFreedom Rugby League (PRL) throughout most of the last 20 years excluding the last five years where they have become a force to be reckoned with on the rugby pitch. They play their games in the city of Workers Point, PopularFreedom at Workers Stadium.

History

  • In 1983 the Workers Point Bobcats rugby franchise was formed in conjunction with the other seven teams of the league.
  • In 1988 the Bobcats made their first PRL championship appearance. After opening the scoring however they were absolutely destroyed for the remainder of the match by the Locke Harbour Dragons 45-21.
  • In 2002 the Bobcats completely dominated the Viscount Bennett Imperialists to win their first PRL Championship. The Bobcats took at early lead and hung on with their superior play through most of the game. Even with two converted tries by the Imperialists in the final three minutes, due partially to the Bobcats already basking in their success before the match was done, the Bobcats came out victorious in an extremely awesome defensive battle.
  • In 2003 the Bobcats surprised the entire rugby establishment in PopularFreedom by making it to the final. However their luck ran out as possibly one of the greatest defensive rugby powers ever put together in the 2003 Locke Harbour Dragons defeated them 26-5.
  • In 2004 the Bobcats again made it to the final were again the Locke Harbour Dragons proved too powerful as the Bobcats again fell the Dragon dynasty, this time 39-9.
