Overview

Yagdrassil is the capitol of Cairn Tarra and also its most grand engineering achievement. Began shortly after the arrival of the Tarrans in Sisgardia it took nearly ten years to be completed.

General Information

Yagdrassil is an extensively genetically modified Tree – based loosely on a pine/oak cross variant pioneered by Teo-Holtzmann Wisewood as part of his teaching thesis. The tree reaches nearly 4 miles (6.7km) in hight though only the first 3km are regarded as habitual. Teo Holtzmann-Wisewood and Ja'annis Tolin were responsible for the majority of the work involved in the Trees creation.

Population and Habitation

The standing population of the tree is around ten million though this number continues to increase essentially as new additions are made to the structure and Tier 6 continues to advance. Habitation is provides in caverns made by the trees roots 'Tier 6', - 'The Sea pf leafs' the engineered equatorial kelp fields that surround the tree. 'Tier 7', the habitats carved into the seabed rock by the trees roots. 'Tier 5', the underwater habitats created to house the Tarran equivalent of 'heavy industry' and overspill population. 'Tier 1' the sea level harbors and manufacturing sections. 'Tier 2' – Midgard forest, the 'capitol of the capitol' built on the massive ring structure around half way up the trunk of the tree. 'Tier 3' – The Fields of Thought, universities and civic buildings. 'The Barks', dwellings constructed inside the trunk of the tree or as buildings attached to its surface. The highest point of the tree is Yagamead, which contains the Aardseanaad's chambers (seat of government) and LAMMAS – the AI which controls most of the essential function of the city and automatically maintains the tree. (note – Stage 4 -in the drawing has not been commenced yet.)

Transport

Transport between the various sections is usually by the Transpiration lifts based in the trees xylem vessels in the 'central well' – the hollowed out middle of the trunk which runs the hight of the tree. Foot or aircraft is the only other way to navigate the tree. Transport links with the remainder of Cairn Tarra and Sisgardia are made by the Mag-lev rail network which runs under the seaflore of the Gulf of ardor, a grand station will soon be opened to allow for Tarrans to move easily and freely between the Tree, the exterior lands and the SFN.
