Born Xanaqor Lemaliorn in 194,053 ASI, the prince's name was changed to Degriesk after it was discovered that the king's brother had placed a curse on Xanaqor. The king's brother was executed for his act of treason, but he had already sold the crystal and the name of the prince, engraved in a stone. As the curse could not be broken without possession of the crystal, the royal family changed the prince's name to Degriesk, and kept his true name a secret.

When Degriesk was told of the curse upon him, he started a search to find the crystal, and the stone that bore his true name. The items had gone through many owners, so tracking them down was difficult and took many millenia.

Degriesk eventually discovered that they resided in the possession of the YlimNeicna, two Velfodnerset brothers who ruled a world known as Niogoul-Maeromirpli. Retrieving the items would be difficult, as they were in The Underground City under heavy guard. Worse still, The Underground City was protected against unwanted teleportation by a magical barrier.

In order to retrieve the items, Degriesk needed two things: a spell to destroy the barrier, and an army to invade The Underground City and search for the items.

Though Cavaex had its own army, he did not want to weaken its defense by sending a great force into The Underground City. While he was working on the spell, he found a potential source of an army: the human land of Luceterna. The Luceternans had great magical and technological expertise for such a young civilisation.

Rather than attempting to invade Luceterna, Degriesk realised it would be far more efficient to abuse the democratic system of Luceterna. Having persuaded some humans to swear allegiance to him, he had them form an organisation, which they named the "Order of Light". This organisation, headed by Michael Trent, ran for election and won.

Three decades later, Degriesk was prepared. He dispelled the barrier around The Underground City, and opened a portal. The Order of Light, now the totalitarian government of Luceterna, invaded The Underground City, successfully.

After a short period, Michael Trent reported to Degriesk that he had found the items. By this time, the army of Niogoul-Maeromirpli was beginning to reclaim their capital, but it did not matter to Degriesk, who only wanted the items. Degriesk teleported to the YlimNeicna palace, where Trent had found the items. Trent, however, knew more than Degriesk thought. Holding the crystal, Trent spoke Degriesk's true name. As intended, power was drained from every fibre of Degriesk's essence, and absorbed into Trent's body.

Trent, now filled with power, teleported away before the forces of Niogoul-Maeromirpli could find him.

When a servant of Degriesk eventually found the items, he betrayed Degriesk and used the items.

The world of Cavaex has been ruled by the Cavaexi civlisation since before the Cavaexi began to record history.

History

Reign of Degriesk Lemaliorn

Degriesk reigned from 197,194 ASI until his death in 201,942 ASI. From the outside, Degriesk's rule seemed relatively uneventful. In fact, Degriesk's life was under constant threat. Shortly after birth his traitorous uncle put a curse on him that allowed one to kill Degriesk and absorb his power, simply by holding a magical crystal and speaking his true name aloud. Though his uncle was executed, and his true name kept secret, the crystal could not be found, nor could a stone on which his uncle had engraved Degriesk's true name.

When a servant of Degriesk eventually found the items, he betrayed Degriesk and used the items.

Reign of Nebriek Lemaliorn

When news of Degriesk's death reached Cavaex, his son, Nebriek was crowned king.
