History

Dear Leader was arrested in his previous Country for opposing the illegal Government over its plans for the torture of terrorist suspects.

After being bravely busted from prison by his party colleagues, he hid away on a tanker. Fog descended after 10 days at sea and continued for 40 days. When it has lifted, miraculously, there was land and Dear Leader along with the tanker crew settled upon it and named it Palacetonia.

When the population reached 100 million, there was a major reorganisation of the Nation to include 3 Provinces each with their own Governors. They are: Norwood; Holmesdale and Selhurst. A variant of English developed in the Selhurst Province has been adopted as one of the offical languages called Selhurstian.

The Liberal Party recently won the general election and have started their next 5 year term.

Politics of the Nation

A two chamber Parliament. Split into the State Chamber and the People Chamber, collectively known as the National Tier. They both have speakers and deputy speakers to ensure smooth running of business. There is also the Local Tier where Councillors do the day to day running of the country at a local level.

The Peoples Chamber

As its name suggests the 140 Representatives are chosen by the people in Constituencies: The Provinces of Selhurst and Holmesdale return 40 Representatives each, and Norwood returns 60 Representatives due to its larger size. Elections are held every 5 years using proportional representation.

State Chamber

Noted field leaders from all walk of life such as culture, science, education, former cabinet members, and former Representatives are selected by Dear Leader for the second chamber. They act as a brake on The Peoples Chamber by reviewing legislation and holding the cabinet members to account. There is always a maximum of 220 Delegates at any one time. Vacancies arise through death or resignation of a exisiting delegate.

Local Tier

Each Province is subdivided into districts where the councillors allocate their budgets to schools, hospitals, waste management, town planning, policing and road maintenance.

Political Parties

Liberals: Apart from 5 terms, have been in control of the country at a National Tier, currently runs the country under Dear Leader. Economic liberalism and personal liberty are their favourite policy areas.

Social Democrats: Been in power 3 terms in total. Environmental, health, minority rights policies and have shown tendencies towards command economics.

Conservatives: Have won 2 elections. Favours small government, subsidies for manufacturing, agricultural and cheese sectors and tougher discipline.

Media

Sometimes called the Fourth Tier. Tabloids include Daily Herald and National Courier. Broadsheets includes The Times and Daily Thinker.

Television has 3 main providers. Palacetonia Television (PT); Land and Sky (LS) and Viewers Choice (VC).

Characters

Dear Leader

He is the Prime of the Cabinet and lifelong President.

Under him are the Secretaries of: Administrative Affairs; Defence; Education; Foreign Affairs; Health; Interior; Tax and Immigration; Trade and Industry; Transport and Environment; Welfare and the Province Governors.

The Ambassador Plenipontiary

After being educated at the top state school and Law at University, she entered a fast track Diplomat Service scheme. Rapid promotion followed after successes in negotiating the purchase of a tract of land to allow Palacetonia to expand her borders and Dear Leader chose her to head the UN Mission.

The Ambassador Plenipontiary also has her own team known as the UN Mission. They currently consist of The Education Aide; the Law Chancellor and the Trade and Industry Aide

Iain Corder

Palacetonia's most famous footballer. He is 52 years old, won 78 caps, scored 34 goals and is currently the manager of the football team. He played for Dowie City for 14 years with 534 appearances in the Championship league scoring 278 goals. He has won 4 Championships, 3 Runner Up spots and 4 Third Place medals. 6 PFA Cups (2 "doubles") and 5 end of season Grand Final Cups. The Grand Final cup is played between the teams that has won the Championship and PFA Cup.

Palacetonia have lost their three matches in the qualifiers so far. The PFA hope that results will improve to avoid a last place finish in Group 12

Palacetonia has come a credible third in their Baptism of Fire group matches. 1 win, 2 draws and a loss. The squad has been announced for the World Cup soon.

Dear Leader has announced that Palacetonia is now a member of the NS Centrist Party. The Ambassador has been announced as Clive Abbott. Biog to come later.
